2013 Nissan Almera for ~$7000 -- too cheap ?

Hi OzBargainers,
I have a $10,000 budget to buy a used manual car and my preference would go for a 2011 Toyota Corolla.
Yet I am tempted by the 2013 Nissan Almera option around $7,000. Same features, better fuel efficiency, but engine probably sluggish.

Car Sales

There are heaps available. I guess they are fleet cars.
This really seems like a bargain, yet the market is flooded by these.. they don't seem very popular !

Is the offer to good to be true ?
I understand that this model was only sold for one or two years and car is made in Thailand. What else should be holding me back ?
Cheers.

    Pulsar is the Corolla equivelent.
Almera were a smaller cheaper model as far as I could tell (has a smaller engine too)

      This.
Almera is more comparable to a Yaris than a Corolla.

Still an absolute bargain though. As are the new Pulsar and Altima of the same years.

  • the reviews for them seem reasonable see here and here and here.

it seems to be a basic car. the ST is the base model. the Ti the bell&whistle model.

nothing whiz bang about them. they just seem to be not a "wow" car.

the reviews don't really bag this car in any way. except it seems to make the camry sound exciting.

  • the 2 cars you mentioned are much of a muchness. The corolla will retain its resale alot better than the almera which has been dropped by nissan. If you need a car to go from point a to b either will do it sufficiently

It is cheap because no one is searching for one.

  • Check with the sellers if there is any warranty left for 2013 Nissan (like 5 or 3 year manufacturer warranty) and go for Almera if they does.As of my knowledge, Nissan parts are cheaper than Toyota's.

If you have an idea of selling/upgrading soon, Corolla is suggestible as Toyota has a great demand in used cars market.

  • Keep in mind its just the 4 cylinder micra engine thrown in a small sedan, so no real shock its got the value of a hatchback. Still great if you have a family and want a cheap car with a big boot.

a Lot of KM's for a 3 year old car all around 100000Km

    • Hire cars?

      • I dont think anyone would pay to drive something like this, especuially manual.

Its an orphan but saying that, it will provide years of fault free motoring unfortunately.

As previously mentioned, cheap coz no one wants one. It's the sort of car that might have a market in automatic (for the over 50yos that just wanna get around), but in manual would be a tough sell.

Add the kms on top of the manual being a tough sell, and you've got an even tougher sell!
