Coles Comprehensive Car Insurance - Price Beat by $50 or More

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Coles insurance is offering $50 or more price beat on comprehensive car insurance, no matter which provider you have at present. Even if you are paying a rock bottom premium to your current provider, they will still beat it by at least $50. You will need to give them a call and the process won't take long. It's quite straight forward and I found their phone and email customer care service to be good though thankfully I haven't had any claims yet. On top of it, if you hold any Coles insurance policy, then you get more flybuys rewards points for your every purchase at Coles.

PS: I was already with one of the cheapest providers in the market and $50 price beat over it isn't bad at all in my opinion. I heard Coles insurance beat the price by $100 some time back though I wasn't aware of it then. $50 (or more) saving for a li'l effort isn't bad nonetheless.

    • "Offer available for a limited time only"

So it should be a bargain.

This is basically a $50 off voucher for new customers.

And the best part is previous coles customers that have since switched can get the discount.

"Offer available for a limited time only"

That is a very broad definition of 'limited time'

        May-16 price beat by $50
        Apr-16 price beat by $50
        Mar-16 price beat by $50
        Jan-16 price beat by $50
        Dec-15 price beat by $50

Sorry mate, jv is right this time (one of the rare occasions).

To be fair, he is correct in quite a lot of occasions especially when it comes to technicalities :P He just has a lot of unpopular opinions at the same time haha

        • @CheapCoffee:

It's because he lacks any proper decorum in his communication.

    • Alright. One can ignore the post and continue to pay what they are paying. However, if Coles Insurance is beating the price and other so called big brands aren't, then it's 'special' for sure - call it bargain or not. Beating price of Bingle needs guts. It's not easy.

      • +6

It belongs in the forums, it is not a bargain, you are just advertising a price match/price beat policy…

It's like posting a deal that says

"Officeworks Stuff - Price Beat by 5%"

        • +1

          no..

          Officeworks is every day.

Officeworks has strict shops that it applies to

5% is often a small discount

If officeworks has the lowest price by 5 cents or more, the discount is not valid.

The bargain posted by OP is basically free $50 for everyone with comprehensive insurance. How is that not a bargain.

        • Bold and bigger shows furious mood on Monday night after a nice sunny weekend. :). Understood your point.

          $50 off a $1000 policy isn't any better…

I've been getting Spam from Coles about this 'offer' for years…

Bunnings have 10% off for a price beat…

Its a guaranteed $50 no matter what though…

          Not really.

I switched from Coles to Budget online and saved $200… (about 20%)

Coles wouldn't price match as I was already with them…

        • @jv: I had $350 from Bingle and got $50 off it. Made a lot more sense for me than it does to you.

So I should -ve this deal then because I found a better deal ?

        • @jv: You never had a better deal at first place if you were paying $1000 premium anyway, no matter what policy inclusions and which brand. You ain't a true blue OzBargainer then. joking. :)

It was with Coles… I saved money by switching to someone else…

@jv: But Coles will beat the someone else by $50. Guaranteed.

Nope, they wouldn't budge on their premium.

Budget online was $200 cheaper (and less excess too…)

        • +3

@jv: yep was going to say this. My renewal from coles came abd was quite high. Jumped on iselect and budget had a 25% off their gold cover. Asked coles if they would price match to which i was told no. So i just took out the budget policy, saved over $200 and will just get coles to price match again and beat again prior to next renewal. I dont get company mentality that they have no interest in keeping business.

        • +1

          @jv:
          True
But you can go back before 21days cooling off period. $50 plus 5%

        • @samfisher5986:

just FWIW if officeworks has the same price they wont price beat

        • +3

          @k-rokfm:

FYI: officeworks and Bunnings wouldn't beat the quote I received from Coles insurance. They even went as far as to say that I was wasting their time.

  • Hasn't this being going on forever?

    • +1

Could be. I didn't notice it when I shopped around a few months back and ended up buying a policy from Bingle.

    • +1

Yep… just like 5% off at officeworks or 10% off at Bunnings…

      • $50 flat or more. Not just X%. Quite significant amount.

        • +1

Works out about 5% for me…

I switched to Budget online and saved 20% from what Coles were charging…

        • +1

@jv: Go for $50 less than what Budget Online is charging you now then. Why not. Guaranteed.

    Dec-15 price beat by $50

    no bargain here….

  • I'm currently with them.
whilst i find them cheaper premium wise, not so much when you had to make a claim compared with Aami which i had previously.

Had to made at fault claim few months back, what i found with coles is with hire car; insurance is additional even though you had full car hire option. With Aami its included, same cover as your policy. They even organised taxi to & from repairer. With coles you need to organize.

Apparently fully detailed in the pds which I don't read in full detail. I suppose my fault for not reading in full.

    • I don't have any extras such as mobility or windshield cover or road side assistance, neither I had them with Bingle. So, comparing apple to apple for the exact same cover, Coles $50 price beat made sense to me.

  • +5

They refused to beat my current policy. Shame

  • This "deal" is very misleading. Coles agree to beat your current renewal notice.

Most people can get a better price from their existing provider by just requesting a new quote online. For example, I think aami disguise it as an online discount.

In addition, my experience was the same as dars, they refused to beat my latest comprehensive renewal. There are exclusions etc.

    • Not entirely, mine went up $20 with NRMA even signing up as new, switched to Coles.

  • +1

Be careful if you are involved in an accident you need to provide them with the other party's Rego, name, address, MOBILE number, and insurance provider, even if you are not at fault, anything missing you pay the excess, they don't try to get any extra info missing. Happened to a friend and was told to read the fine prints.
I'm with them for my third party on one car but not for comprehensive.

    • Is Bingle service better?

      • No, same deal, just as bad. I took a photot of someones license and they said they couldn't fine them. I looked in the phone book and there was someone at that address with that exact name. Gave them the details on the phone book entry, they said the person didn't get back to them. What BS

When buying insurance, the cheapest price isn't always the best.
Any insurance company is happy to take your money at the time of purchase - what happens at the time you make a claim is the most important. Sometimes the little extra you've paid to a reputable company goes a long way in helping your claim run smoothly - particularly the customer service side of things that you don't get to see until a claim is made.

The only exception I can think of is the Compulsory Third Party insurance (for personal injury) in NSW where the person that you injure in an accident needs to deal with the company you've bought the policy from rather than yourself.

    • +1

Normally if you want to save money you have to be prepared to put in a bit more effort.
With insurance that means that when/if you need to claim it is not going to be so smooth and easy and you may have to chase them.
Otherwise you go for convenience (AAMI, Suncorp, etc), but you have to be prepared to pay for it.
This applies to most things in life.
Coles is not that bad…if you are prepared to chase them when you claim.

    • +1

      Agree entirely here.
Had AAMI many years ago. After accident they wanted to go with their preferred repairer rather than my guy.
Their guy came and didn't even open the bonnet to look at front end damage and quoted far less than my guy.
My guy pointed out what sort of repair job could they possibly do for that price. It could not possibly be repaired properly.
In the end I got my way and my repairer fixed it. Said goodbye to AAMI.
It is what happens in an accident that you have to look for. The whole reason for insurance is so that it is fixed after an accident. It is false to save on a premium and then you have an accident and they don't pay.

      • Same deal here with AAMI.

I dug in and refused to take it to their repairer. They gave me the run around telling me it would be 3 months before their assessor would come and look at it if I didn't go to their repairer.

I just waited it out and got my way in the end.
Way too many horror stories about Capital Smart repair centre including from people that work there.

    • When buying insurance, the cheapest price isn't always the best.

The cheapest is not always the best in any product category. What one needs to look for is the best value for the price.

  • So could you get the cheapest policy, then go QBE price beat by 10%, pay one month, then woolies price beat, then coles price beat and so on

    • And hit bottom at some stage.. like musical chair game. Does anyone know how does it work? It had worked for me and my mates for Coles at least.

      • Im going for it, but what I am going to do is set the policy start date ahead of time and cancel before i spend a dime and send them the policy letter to confirm price. See how i go

        • Let us know how you go.

If they were offering to beat ANY premium by $50 I think this would be a bargain. Appears however they won't, reading above comments?

  • +1

My quote with Coles came out at around $800 before the price beat. I entered what i was currently paying for insurance (moved interstate) and they matched it so i got $430 off! Couldn't believe it, especially as i didn't even need to pickup the phone.

    • Worked like a charm.

  • Coincidentally received an email today offering $100 price beat guarantee (plus cover the cancellation fees that you may be charged by switching insurers, up to the value of $50)! Promo code: 100SWITCH

Code looks to be generic… but other Ozbargainers might like to test and confirm it works for them.

    • From Coles? I guess $100 offer was long over.

      • Yes, Coles Car Insurance… offer ends 30 September 2016.

        • That's $50 off though as you can see on their website as well unless it was a personalised offer sent to you in email.

        • Yes a personalised offer sent in email… but the code is generic so anyone should be able to use it. So double the $50 offer previously posted.

  • Funnily enough, I,ve just moved from Coles Insurance to Dodo.

Coles was originally a pricebeat quote from a couple of years ago, but when moving my Electricity to Dodo, they offered a quote, it was initially more expensive than i was paying at Coles but they asked how much I was paying with Coles and beat the price again.

Not only that but also gave me $50 off my next electric bill and a free Pendo Tablet.

When calling Coles to cancel they couldn't even come close to matching that deal so definitely worth giving Dodo a try too.

    • Which insurance brand has good reviews?

      • +1

Good point. I guess people voice opinions online if service is bad and perhaps just verbally tell others if a service is good.

  • +2

They were offering a $100 price beat before. Have you actually gotten a quote from them? Their price is about 4x the price of their competitors. What happens after the first year of price beat? No, I've also heard horror stories about trying to claim with them, pretty tough without a dash cam.

    • Exactly. I used to have coles car insurance for when they had the fuel dockets (even posted a deal on here about it). Then the renewal came through one year and it had more than doubled for absolutely no reason. I called around and got a much better deal from RACV. Coles weren't even interested in matching, let alone beating the RACV quote. So no more coles insurance for me.

  • Coles is terrible for insurance. Someone hit my car when reversing and it took approximately 1-2 hours for any follow up.

    • Did you get the claim amount finally though?

      • He's probably still waiting…. :)

        • Is he still waiting? Or he received some yesterday? :)

        • @virhlpool:

          Just got through :)

  • FYI Coles car insurance no longer have a price beat policy. I just got a quote, and then phoned them trying to access this, and was told that it has ceased as of 1 August 2017, and that they would not beat my current insurers price. Pity, it was very useful!
