GO Mastercard Charging $0.95 for Making a Payment to Their Card

GO MasterCard is getting worse by day. Over last few years they have increased the monthly fee from $2.95 to $4.95. A couple of months ago they have introduced the Payment handling fee, $2.50 (in person) $0.95 (online). Now, when you pay with a BPAY they charge you $0.95. What a ridiculous fee.. These guys also charge payment handling fee. I wonder if all banks will start doing so in future?

Absolute rip off. The reason they do it is because the GO cards are mainly aimed at low income earners (interest free purchases from Harvey Norman etc)…

Don't think the big banks will ever charge.

Go is run by Latitude who also do 28 degrees. If its the same you can pay via the Go Mastercard log in and then pay via your bank. It will give you instructions. That way you save the 95c Bpay fee

  • Recently Gem Visa started doing so as well out of the blue and no prior communication what so ever!!

    • Same here, I didn't know till I see the statement.lucky I didn't set up direct debit.

    BPay

BPAY is a registered trading name of BPAY Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cardlink Services Limited. Cardlink is owned equally by the four major Australian banks: Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, National Australia Bank Limited and Westpac Banking Corporation.

Probably not the Big 4 at least.

is 28 degree doing this too? Maybe I should just use Citibank when I go overseas :/

      I believe so.

Payment handling fee $2.50 (in person)
$0.95 (online) This excludes payments made via the Online Service Centre.

It's advertised on their website and I believe a better way of paying off the monthly spent is to use their direct debit or to use their online payment system (it's kind of direct debit but you need to initiate the payment from your request).

Citibank Plus you use overseas but that's a debit card. 28 Degrees is a Credit card.

You only pay the fee if you pay by BPay and if you arent using the card (Like not being OS) then there is nothing to pay.

Bjdchwr says you can avoid the fee by following what they say.

      • Yeah, it's just I always put money into my card before travelling to make sure that I don't get charged fee for having balance > 0 by the end of the statement or just to make sure I don't have balance overdue while I'm travelling. I use Go Mastercard to shop in Australia. 28 Degrees and Citibank for overseas use.

    • Yes, 28 degrees is charging this fee. But if you pay from within the online centre, it is free. But it does have restrictions, like:
      (a) you can only use this payment method once in 5 days.
      (b) you cannot pay more than what is outstanding (or something like that).

      • oh damn, I'm already on negative :/

NAB has started doing this from last couple of months. Cant find any other credit card merchant who doesn't charge this. Probably Coles MasterCards ? Will check their policy.

Neither of mine do - Bankwest and Westpac. Is it actually that common? I'd only heard of 28 Degrees introducing it before today.

Coles says no fee for paying account by BPay

  • They want you not to pay the 95c fee… Esp on bpau. There is more chances that you will make a late payment and be charged all the interest on such loan.

    • Like most people ,I choose Go card as the hardly normal guys offer interest free period for 4 or 5 yrs.so I don't pay interest on my purchases by paying the premium price for the product through the card .
