Transporting cars interstate - is it worth it?

Hi guys, looking at purchasing a vehicle in South Australia. Unfortunately, due to the smaller market, there is only 1 dealership of the make. Was wondering if anyone has had experience of buying a new car interstate and then shipping it interstate (NOT driving it back. Not interested) and has an idea of costings?

Yes, I did this to Tasmania a month ago. The vehicle was shipped from a dealership in NSW, shipping was around $1000 and took about 2 weeks.

Keep in mind you may have additional transfer fees as well as the need to obtain a refund on the registration from origin state. In my case even with all this considered I got a substantially better deal than the local dealship and got the colour paint I wanted.

All I did was call the dealer in question and in my case they were happy to arrange everything.

  • it certainly can be

have you tried a broker, they organise everything

  • I've transported 2 cars with Patrick Auto Care. Reliable and both times was smooth and no problems. Go to their website and get a quote. It was under $800 each time. Cost depends on whether you want the car picked up from a place, or it's dropped/picked up at a depot at either end.
