Dick Smith purchase November 2015, faulty, no receipt

Hi there,

i'm sure this question gets asked a lot so my apologies if it treads old ground.
I bought a Jabra Solemate http://www.jabra.com/music/wireless-speakers/jabra-solemate from Dick Smith in early December 2015.

The power socket seems to have come loose from the motherboard (my guess) and I don't seem to be alone.
I bought it for someone to give to me as a gift and the receipt has been lost.

Usually i'd ask the retailer to look up the transaction based on the sales date and my bank statement but clearly that won't happen.
Jabra customer service have said it has 12 months warranty but they will need a proof of purchase which is reasonable.

"Please attach a copy of the sales receipt, for example in PDF or JPEG file format, to your email. A sales receipt in text format is not valid. The sales receipt must include the following information:

• Name of Jabra device (including color)
• Place of purchase
• Date of purchase
• Price of Jabra device"

So with no proof of purchase, do I have any options other than bin it and start again?

Thanks,

Christian

Businesses can ask you for proof of purchase
To use your rights to a repair, replacement or refund you will need to keep the receipt or other type of proof of purchase. Sometimes you may need to provide more than one of these things to support your claim – for example, when a credit card statement does not clearly itemise the product.

It is also a good idea to keep records about any descriptions and promises of how the product or service should appear and work.

Keep receipts in a safe, dry place and take a copy of them if you are worried about fading. You can use the ACCC Shopper app to store your receipts as photos on your phone.

If it’s not right, use your rights

  • If you didn't keep the tax invoice to the purchase I hope you at least have a card payment statement. A card payment record will not give you much purchase details unless the shop is willing to help you out by digging into their database.

Dick Smith probably won't be up for that.

Did DS ask you for your email address when you purchase the item? Usually they will send a copy of the receipt to your email address at the same time. I have had a couple of receipts sent to me via email when I purchased over the counter and online. Just my two cents worth into this forum.

    • No they didn't.
It's frustrating, i'm (almost literally) obsessive about keeping receipts.
They all go into the top draw, even stupid things like light bulbs and socks.
Then they get sorted regularly into a folder that sits in a metal box wit the passports, tax stuff etc.
With larger items I tape the receipt onto the box and store that too with all the bits and bobs and packaging.

It's been handy on any number of occasions.

  • Tell them it was a gift, so there is no way you would have the original receipt, and you still have your statutory warranty rights under consumer state law. Just cause its a gift doesnt mean they can refuse warranty.

Bin it? Whoah whoah whoah, you could at least try repair it at a tech shop as a last resort.

I'm pretty confident I can repair it but that will almost certainly void any warranty.
I didn't mention that option because I didn't want to open that can of worms.
I can assure you that like many good Ozbargainers I am handy with a needle and thread and a soldering iron.

      • Just fix it then. You are obviously having trouble claiming warranty now, you will surely have the same problems if you try and claim warranty in the future (not that there is much warranty left)

Did you actually speak to them, or are going off their website. I'd contact them again via a public forum (their own forums/Facebook etc). You may get a better customer service representitive. They may be able to see what the manufacturer date is by the serial number (if the manufacturer date is Oct, then you'll still be within 12 months).

After that, leave a review on their product page of the positive/negative experience.

    Hi,

Last week I emailed [email protected]

I gave them a description of what I purchased the total amount, the date purchased and the store that I purchased them from.

Today I have a copy of the receipt :)
