    • Outright or on a Contract? Amazing deal :)

Long story short they hadn't included handset repayments on their business plan so I signed up, cancelled after a day and had to pay the early disconnection fee which was something like $410 (but they had a $200 credit at the time to bring it down to $210).

They did try to get me to pay the full handset+cancellation costs in the end which would have been something like $1000 per phone (I ordered one for the wife as well), but I had a chat transcript and screenshots showing that there were no handset repayments/device credits when I signed up so they had no choice really. They were quick to correct their error on the website after I had pointed it out.

        • AH ok, I see. WOW! Good work haha. Hope your enjoying the phone even especially now that the Android 7.0 Nougat update is out :)

can't tell you, because that would be sharing.

    • +1

Yeah seems a bit like Catch 22

        It's never shared. Past tense.

If you share, that's present tense.

It will be shared afterwards, and now we're just time travellin'

Bought a 64gb Iphone SE from ebay yesterday for $590 + free 32gb Micro SD card. seller had other same phone listings up with different price but I must have found the one they forgot to change pre-sale price, was the last one available.

    • Not a terribly useful accessory for the iPhone, but hey free stuff!

    • one they forgot to change pre-sale price,

      What do you mean?

      • when i first saw the listing it was $681, i emailed the seller asking some questions (warranty) and they said all good, clicked through the link in the email to the item and it was changed to $710. all the same phones in that store had changed to the $700+ mark except for the 2 listing with the memory cards ~$690.

        • Isn't that a scam to up the price and then claim there was a "sale"?

        • @fruit: yeah i was a bit annoyed, me emailing them to ask a question probably triggered them to up the price, but when i found an unchanged one, was satisfied enough to jump on it. cant say 100% they are scam because the sale started a few days prior and they only changed the price yesterday so maybe a bunch of people got their orders through

Free beer (unlimited quantity) from Woolies for 2 weeks. Mods blocked it because they believed it was targeted.. it never was. They finally allowed it on the last day.

    • That was shared heaps of times but removed because woolies didnt want it accessible to everyone, I got heaps too :)

    • Yet another reason we just implemented Targeted Deals showing for all. We contacted BWS but they weren't sure, members hadn't reported to us if any card worked. Frustrating for all.

  • Pretty much every single eBay deal.
Spackbace and Tightarse post them to OzB before me….every…single…time…

    • Pretty much every single eBay deal.
Spackbace and Tightarse post them to OzB before me

Never seen Spackbace post one. I've got a couple though.

  • Many many 1c deals. I gotta get in first before the pack and by then they're usually sold out ;)

A Kenwood KMix Stand Mixer. At the time they were retailing for about $650 RRP in Aus. I managed to buy one from eBay France (used google translate) when it was on special having it delivered to Aus for $320 AU :)(the exchange rate was good as you can imagine) about $40 of which was postage because of the weight. I actually wasn't sure if the order was going to go through at the time but the mixer turned up a couple of weeks later. The only thing it needed was a plug adaptor.

Could things get any better you ask? Well yes they can. Kenwood Australia at the time were running a promotion where by if you had purchased a KMix stand mixer you could send away for $300 worth of free attachments (pasta maker, meat grinder etc.) When I went on the promotions website it stated that I needed to send a copy of the purchase receipt after lodging the claim within so many days for the claim to be valid. I never sent a copy of the receipt (because I only had an online order from Amazon in French!) but lo and behold, about a month later all the accessories turned up anyway!

I never posted that deal. Will I go to hell? It is cathartic confessing this I must admit :P

  • I checked out a games shop and found that they were having a clearance sale. Several highly rated board games on bgg were on sale at 60% off. I bought a couple as gifts for mates, they don't need to know.

Rented a Sydney house for 4 years, became friendly with the landlord who lived next door. He had no family and not many friends at all. Sadly he died and I expected to be moved on until I got a letter from his lawyer saying he had left both properties to me.

I had saved a few bucks for a deposit by that stage so I set up a scholarship fund in his name at his school, so far he has put 6 kids (plus mine through his generosity) through an elite private school in Sydney and there is no end in sight. I have topped it up a few times when circumstances permit and will continue to do so for as long as possible.

Great bloke whose legacy lives on forever I hope.

      Altruism, this person gets it.
Well done mate, you should be nominated for an award.
This sort of stuff should be the criteria for "Australian of The Year", rather than the "Victim of The Year" theme they had going in the recent years e.g. Adam Goodes and Rosie Batty

      • +1

Careful, you can be booed for that sort of logic

        • +1

I realised that and accepted the possibility, it needs to be said I reckon.

I should clarify that I have no issues with people who've been through poverty/hardship and domestic abuse to receive support, if they want to get back on their feet (and life) lets help

That is the BEST story I have heard! Can you name the school who benefitted? Just curious.

  • +1

I picked up some PFDs from BCF for 6c each! Delivery cost me about $20 I think. Wife only let me buy 8.

~Excuse me Payton, did you call Rosie Batty a victim? She witnessed the murder of her child by his father & with amazing resilience, somehow, made her experience better the lives of women in Australia. Also, making us recognise DV as a crime & educating us to raise our children differently. I'd say she is Amazing. I'd call her a Hero!

Thank's for the kind comments, it is not me it was all Tony, a good mate over a way too short a time frame. I would rather not name the school (it is a religious school that has been around since the 1800's) as I don't really want my name associated with it, I didn't make it possible, Tony did and does. It is also designed to help families who value a great education and just can't afford it rather than opening a window for everyone to inundate the school with applications.

I should probably correct my earlier statement, it is a Bursary not a scholarship as this school doesn't do scholarships, 2B honest, I really don't know the difference but either way the kids who need it benefit most.

I appreciate the comments, I really do, but I am just an ordinary bloke using another's generosity in a way I know would make him smile, he valued education and helping people and I hope he would be proud of his legacy. I would love to be able to read him some of the letters of gratitude the school has forwarded to me, in almost every case the kids have gone on to follow some great dreams, time will tell how successful they are. If they have the opportunities I have had, they will lead rich and rewarding lives and most probably go on to help others less fortunate as that is the ethos of this religious group (not that I am a member of the their religion, but it seemed to fit Tony best).

I bought a Samsung fridge for $1000 under sale price. I've had my eyes on the sparkling water model of Samsung fridges for a few years now and any time I've seen the price under $3k it has always been the plain non-sparkling water version. Wife was complaining we didn't have enough fridge capacity for the Xmas party this year so I had a quick look and there it was for $2499 with the $200 cash back bringing it down to $2299. Samsung RRP is $4799. Usually it sells for $3999. This particular retailer had it there at the standard fridge price. I could have bought gift vouchers to save a further 5% but this mistake was so outrageous I was not going to hesitate. Fridge delivered, exactly as expected, fits like a glove as the fridge cavity was actually designed with this model fridge in mind. Next week price was back up in the mid-3k range again.
