PayPal issue - not able to add my commbank issued AMEX card

AMEX cards has been accepted by paypal for quite sometime, but tonight I removed my commbank issued AMEX card from my paypal for a moment but I couldn't added it back on.

I did it to avoid AirBnB charging my Paypal account and selecting AMEX as a default payment card- I got hit with international transaction fees , even though they charged in AUD, they are still a UK based company. I wanted paypal to default to my 28 degrees card (this didn't work either!!)

I tried adding the AMEX card back into my paypal account later on, but encountered a problem. After typing in the first 4 digits, the card was recognised as "AMEX card" but when i punched in rest of the numbers, it changed to Mastercard logo, but as I finished entering all the number it became an exclamation mark. and I could only put in 3 digits in the CVV field. The result is I couldnt add the card at all.

Has anyone else encountered a similar issue?

    Hi,

    try removing your bank account details then adding the AMEX card back.

    I had a similar situation where I wanted to use my AMEX instead of my bank account and this is how I managed to get it to work.

      Thanks for replying. Unfortunately, I had already removed my bank account long time ago (it was annoyingly set at the default payment) so your method didn't work.

    Had exactly same problem this morning. I used PayPal mobile App to add Amex, worked without any problem and appears on desktop website straightway

      Great suggestion. I had forgotten to try the mobile app, and it did the trick for me! Problem solved!
