Same deal to this one from last week but different coupon code. The right-most model, was $1,299 but use TP13DEAL to get $300 discount to bring the price down to $999 delivered.

Here is what you get from ThinkPad 13:

  • Intel Core i5-6200U Processor (2.30GHz 1866MHz 3MB)
  • Windows 10 Home 64
  • 13.3"FHD IPS AntiGlare LED Backlight 1920x1080
  • 8.0GB PC4-17000 DDR4 2133MHz
  • 256GB SSD M.2
  • Intel HD Graphics 520
  • 3 Cell Li-Polymer
  • Fingerprint Reader
  • Intel Wireless 8260 (2x2 AC) with BT4.1
  • 322 x 223 x 19.8mm @ 1.4kg

There are lots of reviews on this model. Basically it's a light weight portable budget ThinkPad, i.e. not really a substitute to T460S or X260 with its all plastic casing. However FHD IPS screen is not bad, 2x DIMM slots allows maximum 16GB of RAM, SSD is replaceable with any other M.2 SSDs, no keyboard backlight, it does however have a USB Type-C port (just Gen 1, not Thunderbolt 3 port) which allows it to drive 2 external monitors.

The i3 model is also currently on-sale at $699 with 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD. It would probably be a better buy if not for its 1366x768 TN screen, as both RAM and SSD are replaceable.

OP is creator of OzBargain haha

Comprehensive overview, with a good comparison to a more basic i3 model! Still undecided if I should get a Spectre 360 (had to return ex-work laptop!), or a 2-in-1 … hmmmms

Yep, thanks Scotty. You hit all the important stuff. I had to pour over their specs for hours when I was shopping between different laptops. You distilled it down completely!

  • TA, Can this code also be added to CR?

    • Edit: words from Lenovo — they are temporarily not offering cashback from cashback sites until their tracking issue is fixed.

      • On my last purchase, the amount stated in tracking receipt was greater than the purchase amount. I think they didn't subtract the discount coupon.

But once the order was shipped, the amount in CR was changed to lower than purchase amount, even after removing the GST component.

Tried to contact CR about the issue but seems like it didn't register my report - the questions ended with "Did it answer your question?" I responded No and only got a thank you message.
        TA, is this normal?

      • Wow, OK that makes it an 8% worse proposition. Do they have a timeframe for resolution, or is it safe to assume this will be the case for a good long while?

Edit: Just saw Scotty's reply below that it is temporary

  • I want the X260!!! :D

There is a current X260 deal ($1599 for i7, FHD, 8GB/256GB, 3 cell). For businesses use I will probably go for X260 and get extra battery, but can't justify spending that much money on a computer just for personal use…

      • I can definitely understand that! I'm leaning towards the X260 more to use when I'm traveling.

That looks like a decent deal based on what I can see on ozbargain search history. I wonder if there are any ways to drive down the price further, maybe speaking to a Lenovo rep online if that's possible

Heard from TA & Lenovo that cashback issue is temporary but hopefully they will get that resolved soon to get more discount.

        • @scotty:

Does Lenovo put on those deals pretty regularly? I missed the x260 deal didn't think it would end so soon :(

@Heracles26: I guess they try out different discounts every now and then, but I guess more coming up towards Christmas. No, they don't tell me about their discount schedules.

  • Anyone know how much it costs for an extended warranty? I've had a horrid run with laptops so I'm deciding between this and the dell inspironn 13 5000 (can get an extra 3yrs onsite for $230)

    • Edit: you can see the options after checking out. Real expensive unfortunately :(

Was going to go with lenovo, but now im going to have to go with dell :/ Real bummer

      • I find Thinkpads generally are more reliable than Dell, especially the Inspiron. Maybe their Latitude series are better. That said I had issues with broken hinges on T61 in the past (common issue with T61), twice broken during its 3 year warranty period. But I only have 1 year warranty on my subsequent Thinkpads and never had any issues.

        • I also thought apple laptops were pretty reliable when i spent $3.2k on mine. Had to have the logic board replaced twice, whole laptop replaced, logic board again, display, battery, magsafe charging port and battery again.

They really dont build them like they used to, so i'll always ensure I have an extended warranty. Dell offers 4 year of in-home service for $230 extra on their inspirons. Lenovo wants $500+ for 3 years of in-home warranty (cant get the exact figure since their website is down again).

While I prefer the lenovo in pretty much every single way, still going to have to get a dell.

  • I have a T460 at work and its downright pathetic..Im fighting to get a better model. This makes it hard even for basic work.

What is the issue with it?

      • It runs Windows 7. Among the many problems are horrible performance during wakeup from sleep. Driver issues, screen goes blank after disconnecting from external monitor. Intermittent freezes. I have to say it does not have SSD but has 8 GB ram with an I5 processor.

I have the exact same specs with my ASUS at home and its amazing. Obviously a SSD will make a difference but the above specs are not low end but the performance surely is.

        • Is Windows 7 bad?

I think I will be getting the i7 version of the t460 most reviews seem pretty good!

        • @Heracles26: I feel it is bad…I have ben using Win 10 now and its much better…..
I also had the X1 Carbon at a previous firm - Same specs: Core I5, Win 7, Standard HDD, 8GB RAM and it was downright pathetic.

Yes go for the Core I7, get a SSD and 8-16GB RAM along with Win10 and you should be fine. One more thing I have noticed is that the red dot thingy(is it called trackpad???) keeps falling off and I dont even use it.

        • @axlcalvin:

Ok cheers! This'll be my first real laptop so I guess I won't have anything to compare to which is good in a way lol

          @Heracles26: Good luck mate!
