Yota 2 E-Ink Phone US $139 (~AU $187) Delivered from GearBest

970

A strange little phone which has e-ink screen on the back. It used to be incredibly over-priced (~1000) but now its a fully-fledged budget phone with e-ink thrown in. Almost like a kindle with full android.
Also, seems the good price ($187) might need to be accessed through their email promotion. This is what I put in the link above. Might not come up if you access via google.
Good luck. Just throwing it out there, as I thought to was a good deal which might appeal to a handful of avid e-readers and those who like esoteric products.

Arrived today (paid for the faster postage, 10 days) made it an even $200AU total. Packaging is very nice, even the SIM removal pin had its own little box. Headphones were fancier than expected 6 pairs of ear tips of diff sizes, inline volume and mic.

Phone itself has a good shape and feels solid. Updated to Android 5.0 without issues. the A5 update includes a bit more crap in it than I would like, and most of it can't be removed without rooting (looking into it). Front and rear screens are responsive and easy to use. Switching between front and rear is well thought out (was expecting a little cludginess). Yota/rear display software has good features and easy to use/customise. Will deffinitly need a front protector (as I will be having it e-ink side up mostly). A little supprised that it didn't come with one. Camera seems ok, I never expect much from a phone's camera.

I would have really liked muSD slot or larger storage (32gb on box = 25gb with 23gb usable). I use phone as MP3 player so more is better. If Yota 3 is a technical upgrade and has more storage I would probably upgrade to that pending OzB deal ;)

Very impressesed with the sound quality and volume. I haven't tested this yet, but although you can answer the call on the rear screen, the speaker is still located on the front which may affect audibility. The mic is located on the base and is fine for front or rear calls.

  • Anyone received it through regular post? I bought it on 23/9 and paid through paypal. Now the SingPost tracking showing it was arrived in AU post on 11/10, but I have not received it until today.
