Air Asia Bali Trip

Hi guys I was lucky enough to score the Air Asia flatbed deal here on OzBargain a few months ago and the time to go is almost here already. Anyway I've been trawling through booking.com and it spins me out how cheap some of the four star resorts are, I'm sure they don't quite all match the description but $40-$50 a night seems to be about the average price for a room. My question regards the best place to stay, I'm hoping to find somewhere near a popular beach with good restaurants etc. However I don't want to deal with scammers, bad smells and the negative parts of Bali. Just wondering if anyone can recommend a good hotel/resort for around $50 a night. Also I plan on going for surf, snorkel, jetski, skydive etc. So anywhere close to those facilities would be helpful.

Anyway thanks in advance,
Tas.

There are good breaks from the airport to Uluwatu. Smell increases with population density. Scammers are everywhere; just be smart. 99/100 jetski == scam. Nusa Dua is the safe haven you are looking for.

It's simple. If the hotel says it's in 'Kuta' or 'Legian' don't book it.

  • Thanks for the advice guys. I've just pre-booked a stay at the 'Nest' in Nusa Dua although now they're telling me the pool isn't finished :/

Nusa Dua is ok but it's a massive tourist trap.

I'm going for my second trip to Bali in Jan and I've booked to stay in Seminyak and Ubud. Ultimately it depends on the type of trip you want.

If you want to sight see then it doesn't matter where you stay so much. Nusa Dua is good for resorts where you don't leave. Seminyak is good for food and shopping and hussle and bustle, Ubud is a nice quiet country stay. Kuta and Legian is similar to Seminyak but with more nightclubs and Aussie bogans.

Being a tourist you can just walk into any of the resorts down by the beach and use their pool. Also a nice walk along the beach to Bali Collection; an awesome shopping mall where everything has a displayed price and they don't allow hawkers. I remember chilling with some locals who were playing guitar by what is labelled Waterblow on Google maps. They were proper decent people. Sure, Nusa Dua is a little out of the way but you can still do the volcano on the north side of the island in 1 day and you won't get drunken louts walking around with tasers and fireworks.

There is a sick A-frame directly in front of Bali Collection and a choice right point break there too. The breaks from Uluwatu to Airport are dominant lefts if you're goofy.

  • Thanks man great advice. The collection sounds pretty cool and I'm glad to hear there's some decent surf close by. I'm guessing I can just hire a car etc. For trips anyway, someone was saying that most places are only 20 minutes or so from Nusa Dua.
