So DJI have announced their answer to the GoPro Karma drone and it looks like a winner

A lot of the features from the Phantom 4

Anyone else looking to pick up one? I'll definitely be picking one up as soon as a new eBay or store deal pops up

  • I will certainly be looking when some deals come about. But given my two recent crashes. I think I need to find some more open space to practice before spending more coin.

    Although it looks awesome!

Just read the specs, I want one now!! How to I justify this to the wife…

    • There is Obstacle Avoidance so you don't have to worry about crashes. New on both Phantom 4 and Mavic.

Keep an eye out for Casey Niestats review.
I would imagine DJI would be pushing an early unit to Casey to leverage his subscribers

    • Well they used iJustine in the launch so maybe his Karma videos pissed off DJI…..

    • The footage in his video seems a bit blurry. Some people are saying it's a smudge, some people are saying he left the plastic film on.

      • He didn't set the focusing correctly.

        • Yep.

  • Definitely jumping on the next deal on a Mavic. Looking at getting one as early as possible so will consider deals just below RRP.

  • So I don't get what DJI have done here pricing wise. Is this meant to replace the Phantom 4? Because it has all the features, if not more, and costs less.

Considering people only recently purchased the Phantom 4, I'm really not sure what DJI are trying to achieve.

    • I am not learned on the subject, is DJI's pricing of the back of GoPros new drone?

    • This is pretty much a compact version of Phantom 4 as you can see all 4 legs can be folded up. Also it's USD$200 cheaper than Phantom 4.

      • That's what I mean. They would lose Phantom 4 buyers.

        • Yeah I know what you mean but I think DJI is trying to have more models in their arsenal. Pretty much like cars and many other things out there where the different models and grades. Competition is fierce out there. Can't complain because we get better and cheaper drones :)

        • Oh I just confirmed the real reason why. "GoPro’s stock responded by plummeting over 6% at one point yesterday after DJI’s unveiling."

  • There'll no doubt be some cheap second-hand advance and pros floating around soon, as people want to upgrade

any thoughts on the price hike to buy it in Australia ?

The drone and controller are listed for 999 USD, but on the Australian version of DJI's site for 1699 AUD…

    • By time you change into AUD and add GST the difference is bout $250. A little annoying but a small price to not have to live in America 😜

I originally saw the price of $999 US and thought it may hit the $1,300 AU mark so I was looking to sell my Phantom 3 Advance and trade up. But $1,600 just seems too pricey just in Australian prices.

Just watched Casey Niestats' review and wow this thing is awesome time to start saving.

  • Well, I aim to get this Mavic or Phantom 4 for my son(mostly for me, LOLZ just don't tell him!) but it'll be some time later. We have just started on a $99 training drone.

For those looking at both Mavic and Karma here is a great read. http://petapixel.com/2016/09/28/dji-mavic-pro-vs-gopro-karma…
