Aldi are talking crap. If that hood is double layered how can you have a glass window? Not to mention glass hoods are extremely hard to keep clean and a nasty insulator of heat, Making the double insulating pointless.

Buyer bewarned. Its also why aldi are not posting pics of this bbq properly.

      1. Double layered material got nothing to do with having a glass window. If there is any it only allows adding the glass window easier (install the glass in between of the two layers of metal).

      2. Glass is a wonderful thermal insulation.

Hehe glass is a terrible insulation.
I work in bbqs every day of the week, beefeater s3000 models run windows and i know for a fact they lose 10x more heat than its counterparts. Which in turn uses 10x more gas making them inefficient.

Think wisely about it. On a hot day if you leave your blinds open it gets hot inside doesnt it? Yet if you close them the BLINDS act as a thermal heat sink. Its because the heat passes through glass very very easily.
Same applies to cars, window tinting can reduce this but bbqs dont have this.

Not to mention even after 1 cook the window isnt visible to see through, you'll need a window scraper to clean it and its very hard to maintain. Same applies to full SS bbqs - very very hard to clean.

Double or triple glazing can be a very effective insulator. Consider the fact that most ovens have a glass door or double-walled glasses.

Your example about a hot day also needs to consider the different ways that heat transfer occurs. Double glazing won't prevent heat transfer via radiation, but it will help with prevent heat conduction.

          @mathew42:

Yes yes, they claim it can retain up to 43% of heat. But it doesnt actually work that way.

Then again, You pay for what you get.

I see no infrared burners, no rotisserie kit and i would also be weary of grill and griddle sizes as finding spares later might be impossible after purchase. Make sure they're 400x400 or 300x300 as this only comes with 1 year warranty. Even Weber gives you a 10 year warranty on the go anywhere bbq - $110!!

Glass is a bad conductor of heat compared to metals. Period.
You are using bad examples. On a hot day you can get a first degree burn if you touch your car's metal roof, but you can definitely tollerate touching the windows glass. And if you put a window tint on your windows(not the interior of the car) they get hotter than clear windows but that has nothing to do with BBQs

Definitely agree, although sometimes you can be lucky / unlucky. I have a Weber Kettle with side table & gas lighter. It is a pleasure to use, because in every aspect you can see how people thought about the design. However it also cost 8x more than a cheap kettle.

My comment was about your lack of understanding of heat transfer and the thermal properties of glass. For example most blinds are backed with reflective material or a light colour so that they radiate a higher percentage of heat back through the window.

          If it's 10%, it'd more reasonable than 10 times.
Do you really need 9 more gas bottles/kegs when adding a glass window?

the double skin isn't to stop heat loss, it's to stop people burning their hands i'd they touch the skin of the hood ….. yes glass is very hard to keep clean and if you neglect it for a few cooking sessions it's even harder to get clean.

      • -2

No, a double skin hood is to retain heat for roasting and more efficiency - less gas usage.

I would also be wanting to know the burner material, cast iron enamel or SS? High btu or low?

It doesnt even mention if it comes with full grill and half hot plate or 50/50. Could be 70/30.

        • No, a double skin hood is to retain heat for roasting and more efficiency

Yet the traditional roasters (think Weber) only have single skin hood or dome.

Amazing that the features that so-called "BBQ experts" consider are important are actually of almost zero relevance to the real world.

All those things will become 100% clear at time of inspection and prior to payment. Just the same as any other purchase.

  • I will be away for this sale, is there a way to pay and get it delivered, without being in store?

is there a way to pay and get it delivered, without being in store?

Sure. Ask your friend, family or neighbour to go and purchase, then deliver it back to your house.
