  • So who come out cheaper on postage?
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/26783

  • No mkv, no deal

    • Why don't you find us a deal with mkv for $60? :)

      • Well got my Allure Blu-Ray player for $99, which does high def mkv and divx no problem.
My Astone AP-32B cost me $44 and does all things this Sony does + also plays RMVB
The WD Mini for $38 represents better value.
I could go on, but the fact of the matter is this Sony is chunkier than its rivals in the same range, hence not offering the same portability the above mentioned media players do. This particular Sony model won't play all DivX formats but the Astone and WD are virtually unbeatable in this regard.

What this Sony offers is already standard on many TVs and DVD/ blu-ray players out there, which really kills the case for having one of these.

But yeah, would be first to share a $59 or less deal on an mkv player - I'm sure the day is not in so distant a future :)

Astone AP-110D is getting there with current pice @79

  • Missing on a lot of formats… no RMVB, no h26, no MKV, no m4v..

sadly most of my media is in MKV and RMVB format.

  • +1

Sony generally sucks for playback versatility. Just compare the onboard playback on Samsung Tvs v the Bravias - the Samsungs will play just about everything, where as the Bravias struggle with certain divx and xvid. For another example, look at the PS3's playback versatility - not that great.
After all, Sony does have interests in Hollywood to protect, and that's the driving reason why they've always been slow to adopt open formats that don't have restrictions, like mp3, divx, and now mkx, h264 etc.

I reckon it's a good price for Sony fanboys who insist on everything Sony, but the actual product itself kills the deal.

  • Does anyone know whether this will play Video_TS files/folders?

  • Not sure if this is the place to post, but can anyone tell me why this doesn't play my WD or Iomega 500gb portable HDD? From its specs. I expected it to. It even has its own powersource.
