  • 20% off 189 should be cheaper than 161

10 Bucks shipping included in the cost too.

    • Decent price for this Whisky all right
will I buy it? not even half the price if I'm drinking it, re-sell it yes

Personally I think it's a somewhat overrated and overpriced whisky.

I bought a bottle about 2 years ago and was not overly impressed with it.

Disclaimer - not a whisky expert, but I have purchased and drank way too many different types of whisky and this is not on my list of "would buy again".

IMO I'd take the Balvenie 12 year triple cask over Johnny Blue any day! https://www.nicks.com.au/balvenie-12-year-old-triple-cask-si…

    Should be $151.20

Ideal gift for someone that needs to lift their spirits

    • I find Whiskey does the opposite..

    • Only way you'll ever be a heavyweight

Just curious, how much is this usually in airport duty free (and how many ml)…going overseas soon.

    • +1

Rip off. As usual. They put their prices up, because 1-2 million Chinese/Korean tourists are their biggest customers and they don't mind paying extra. That's my theory.

    • Not sure about other airports but I find the DF booze prices at Perth International to be reasonable. Not as cheap as Singapore or KL, but not bad either

Johnny Blue is a bit… strange for me. It's almost like the Beats headphones of the whisky world. Sure it's pretty and expensive, but you have better options for less, and incredible options for the same price. Not a whisky expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I've tried and enjoyed significantly cheaper single malts and preferred them over this fairly "standard" tasting blend.

Glenfiddich 18yo is a better drop in my humble opinion, in terms of taste for $ spent.

100% agree - the Beats headphones of whisky!

be a man & single malt!

Good deal but this can be obtained from Winemaket directly for $133.20 ( for 4 )using the code WM20. The catch is that you must buy a case of 24. But if you plan to share the cost with others it may be worthwhile. Or if you are a heavy drinker of this whisky.

Cracker of a deal. Don't think too many people will be wanting to fork out $800 in one hit on whisky though.

  • +2

Personal taste I know but I don't know why anyone would pay this kind of money for blended whiskey when there are fantastic single malts available for much less than this

Each to their own I guess

JW Blue has turned into a Veblen Good. People want it more because it's expensive. I agree that there are some fantastic whiskeys around that cost half of what JWB does. It's a bit like Penfold's and its Grange product. Great tasting wine, but there are other equally great wines that literally cost a small fraction of what Grange does.

Recently in Qatar airport I saw a bottle of whiskey offered for US$5000. It was a 40 year old… something. I'm sure it's tasty, but it's a product people don't buy because of its taste.

      • I tend to find this the case with many french alcohols (and a lot of other french stuff as well), they market them as a premium product, which they usually are, but the quality is not commensurate with the price.

It seems to me that in the world of expensive alcohols, it's far more important to have that mystical aura of perception of quality, rather than actually having it. Obviously if it's cheap, then it can't possibly be a good drink…

      • $5000, amateur..

        And I hear that at $47,000 it's a steal!!

    • It's a consistent brand and blend. The reason why some people like blends (I dont) is that every batch is predictable.

I remember the days when I used to hunt down certain batches of single malts. It's disappointing to drop a few hundred on a bottle and doesn't taste much like the bottle going out.

I got really excited until I realised they were only 200ml bottles..

btw what's up with this autocorrect function Ozbargain have got - I had to go back and re-spell 'realise' 4 times before it gave up trying to turn it into 'realiZe'. Mods, please change language settings to UK/Australian English!!

    • +5

you realise that autocorrect is done on your computer by your browser lol

  • Overrated. Indeed the beats headphones of whiskey.

Try the glenfarclas 15 year old. That's a real whiskey you can drink neat or on the rocks without the aftertaste like you just drank petrol. Glenfarclas goes down like water
