  • hope this can be stacked on a welcome coupon

    • Yes can be stacked. Enter code in promotions and use anytime before expiry date 1/12/16

      • Just tested on a trip from airport, it doesn't stack.

It used the 20% code but didn't apply the $25 welcome code

    • +1

You'd have to be a new user for welcome coupon, and yet using a differen't number doesn't work cause they probably notice the same payment method.

      • +4

max of 3 registrations per device limit, each with different emails but same payment method = same credit card.

  • @mods, not sure how referral link was added, but its not mine. Feel free to remove.

    • +4

Its automatic for websites that have referral links. It's just pulls a random code from the ozbargain user database.

  • How long this coupon last?

    • +2

      read above. already answered.

  • Anyone know if this would work if you were staying at an airport hotel. And wanted to get into the city (mascot)?

  • Where does uber pick you up from at Sydney Airport?

  • Lucky, progressive Sydney. If only you can catch an Uber from Melbourne Airport. Geo-locking is a real downer

    • +3

Just set the pin outside the locked zone and call the driver.

      • +2

The international and new Virgin terminal in Perth is best if all. There's a free pick up zone directly outside the front door. Usually there are drivers hovering around. Very fast to get a car there.

  • Wonder if this 20% is the 20% uber take on the fare, or if this 20% comes out of the drivers take, you know before GST and income tax. After looking in to uber I feel sorry for the people who drive for them as a primary job.

    • +3

UBER definitely takes the cut on these promos.

    • +1

drivers get paid the 'same' regardless of promo codes used.

Basically Uber isn't losing anything as it takes 20-25% commission, so its basically giving you their commission as a discount.

      • Righto, thanks for the info

    • -2

they wouldn't do it if there was no money in it. simple.
don't feel sorry for people that want to make some easy money at the expense of a bigger company that's taking it's fair cut.

      • +1

You've obviously never driven for Uber. I have. Check out the driver's forums and you'll see what it's all about. It used to be great, but it's below minimum wage for drivers nowadays. All the good drivers have left and only the desperate ones are left behind.

      • +1

Not to mention the grey areas involved. There is still no clear direction on who pays the GST. Uber take what 28% commission now on certain classes of uber? Also they claim that the driver then needs to pay GST. Also now the driver is responsible for obtaining F extensions, omnibus license (if applicable), upgrading insurance to rideshare (which sometimes means changing provider). Paying for the medicals when they pop up. Then the bigger company taking it's fair cut demands they also supply mints, water, phone chargers. I am halfway through signing up because I had my head in the sand like you, but after spending a few weeks in the forums like antler is suggesting you get a much more realistic picture on how it plays out.

Not to mention if someone yaks in your car you get $50. If people are in a bad mood they can't literally get you fired. A year or so ago it was much better for drivers. Now not so much.

Just added to my Uber account, not a new user and it's there. Hope it does work on my trip back home after my overseas holiday end of this month.

    • i might do that and just take an uber to mascot station and then train it home =p

      • +1

The short fare will be exactly $9.60, $1.60 more than the "minimum fare".

This is because since last month Uber has added a $4 fee for all fares leaving Sydney airport (in line with taxis).

    Awesome thank you

  • Can kids travel in Uber without child seats?

    • No they can't

    • In fact it's a great cash grab for the driver, it's against the law to transport children under 7 your vehicle without a proper child seat or booster, which all parents should know. Uber drivers are everyday average people that may or may not know this law. If you do know the law though and a person with kids books your uber, when it arrives, the driver says I don't have a child seat, so the parent cancels the trip and the driver gets a cancellation fee. Money for Jam!

      • OK, but I heard that kids over 6 months can travel in a Taxi without child or booster seat.. So uber has not yet got taxi status?

        • No, uber are just a technology company that manage an app, they take no responsibility. One uber driver on a forum I read pasted a reply that said UberFAMILY is coming out soon, and that no child under 7 can be in an UberX without proper restraints. You could get an uberXL and hope the driver updated to an omnibus license or an uberBLACK with has SCV status in which case children need to be in the back restrained by whatever means necessary. I don't know what sort of unfit parents would do this, or what sort of irrespnsible driver would allow this to be done. Even though there is a loophole for these vehicles doesn't make it any safer for the child. I am signing up for uberXL and I would just refuse the fare. That's if the parents were terrible parents and didn't refuse it first.

        • @releasethekr4cken:

          http://www.transport.wa.gov.au/taxis/general-information-and…
The requirements relating to child restraints and where children can sit in vehicles have changed.

While drivers of taxis and Omnibuses will be exempt from most of the requirements, drivers will be required to:

Ensure that available child restraints are utilised (therefore, if there are no child restraints available, the driver is exempt from this requirement).
Ensure that a child under 7 years of age is not in the front row of a vehicle that has 2 or more rows of seats (however, it is permissible for a child aged between 4 to 7 to sit in the front only when all rear rows are occupied by passengers under 7).
Drivers will continue to be responsible for ensuring passengers between the ages of 7 and 16 years are appropriately restrained. Drivers were previously responsible for ensuring that passengers between the ages of 1 and 16 years were appropriately restrained.

        • @releasethekr4cken: Thanks a lot!

        • @DelhiBelly: So I guess make sure you check their license, uber don't tell drivers anything about licensing rules, today they told me I didn't need an omnibus license with according to DOT I do, so I don't know wtf I am supposed to do.

  • So pretty much don't use this if you have a new customer $25 vouchers on your account

    • Depends if you want to save your $25 for another trip ?

  • How much does it usually cost from the airport to the CBD?

    • could vary depending on surge pricing. But you can get estimate via app, gesture up when in app to see estimate section.

    • It was just $20 with the code. Really great value!

  • does this work going too the airport?

taxis usually cost me $50 from nth syd. its ridiculous.
