After my first Ultrabook - Suggestions?

Hi /Oz/bros

My old laptop died a while ago and I bought a computer. But I'm going to be traveling a little bit so I would like to get a Ultrabook.

I was thinking about spending just $1000 or so, and my very first option was Xiaomi Air 13.3 although the price is $1187 right now.

Do you guys think of any other options?

13' is a must
Minimum of 8GB
Long Lasting Battery
Great finish

ps. I heard about Dell Latitude E7470 from Dell's outlet but not sure how much that one would be…

Thanks :)

EDIT: I can wait til end of Decemb. to buy it tho

  • The Latitude is okay, not exactly an Ultrabook though.
I reccomend spending the extra on the Xiaomi OR waiting for a deal to come up on the Asus Zenbook UX303 or UX305

The Lenovo Thinkpad 13 is a very sturdy business ultrabook with a Skylake generation Core i3 or Core i5.

It has a large number of ports — 3 USB 3.0 ports, a USB-Type C port, HDMI, Fingerprint reader and 3.5mm combo jack.

But it does not have a backlit keyboard. If you really want a Backlit KB, I would buy a Dell XPS 13 or the Xiaomi Air 13.

Was previously featured here but the price has gone back up. Maybe you should wait for Xmas deal.

    I purchased my first ultrabook in August, Asus Zenbook UX305UA, i5, 8GB, 128GB, 13.3".
From my experience, it is extremely great value (got mine for around 1k), battery lasts for more than 8hours while browsing, listening to music, doing work, etc. (says 10 - 11 hours on a full charge in the battery icon).
It has a very nice spun aluminum finish, chassis is very clean, it does take some time to adjust to the keyboard as travel is shallow.
It is a very light 1.2kg so very portable to take traveling with you.
If your budget was higher (around 1.5k), I would recommend the Dell XPS13.

I have had an HP Folio for a couple of years and its great. I have never had a problem doing ultrabook stuff, i haven't tried to run games, but my favourite thing is the back-lit keys. If you have chosen to get an ultrabook over a tablet, surely part of the reason is to type. Once you have been able to type in a dark room, you will never be able to live without the glowing keys. Awesome.
