1 year warranty is a worry on an office chair. Similar chairs from Officeworks break down in the 2-3 year mark.

    But hey, it's $99.

  • I was thinking of getting but not sure if it's going to last.

    • They usually don't.

Manual sit/stand desk for $149 seems to be a better deal; https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/special-buys-sat-8-o…

Edit: 98cm max height seems a bit low.

    • Apples/oranges.

    • Anyone know how wide it becomes with the crank out ??
My table space is only 1.48 cm

      • Hey astarman, just in answer to your q. The crank sticks out about 10cm so it would be 1.50cm. I guess you could crank it up or down and then take the crank out and slide the desk into the table space (if that is possible).

        • Yeah I ended up rearranging entire room . Haha

    • I must be a hobbit compared to you :)

Seems to be a reasonable height for me standing up. Desk works well with the crank which can be put on either side. Basic desk but feels strong and stable enough for the price and cheaper than the Ikea alternative. Good buy. Will just fit into a family size sedan with front passenger seat down going diagonally across from the back seat but results may vary.

      • Am not too tall, at 1.91cm. I've found that the ideal standing desk height for me is about 110cm.

I really hate when products use PU. It looks horrible when it starts peeling.

    • +4

PU = polyurethane for anyone else wondering.

      • I have always wondered if there was a name for that fake leather that you find on furniture. I have never experienced an item made of that stuff that hasn't torn apart and started peeling after prolonged use.

    • +2

      Aka "Pleather"

  • +1

No specs on max weight. A lot of these cheaper ones have max weights of only 80kg.

    • +1

      designed for Japanese?

    • Max weight is 130kg from the manual.

  • I wish I could buy this for work. I'd look like a right knob walking in to work with this though ☺️

    • +2

Bring it in at night or weekend =D

    • That's in your head.

What actually happens as you walk in public with a chair is 90% of people register you as something unusual for about 1 second then completely forget about it.

The other 10% are sleepwalking. Or they could be for the amount they notice anything at all.

Anyone bought one of these before?
Do all aldi stores nationwide stock all these deals??

    • yes, good chair for the price I got it for…
Got mine for $39 clearance a few weeks after they went around last time, about 6 months ago.

      • what is the max height of the seat?

  • -1

Looks good and might buy a couple. Similar ergonomic office chair cost over $900.

    • +4

      'similar'

      • +3

By that logic the 86' is a supercar.

  • Couldn't find it at Forest Hill Aldi

    • It starts on 08/10…

    • From 8th October…….

    • +4

I saw a couple. Go back and have a look

  • If someone purchases this, can you comment on the PU padded seat please.

    • If you're not happy, you can return it and get a full refund.

      • Too much hassle. Rather someone else purchase it first and then get back to us on ozbargain. Though there might be no stock left after that happens.

        • It's a good buy and if the chair broke within the 12 months warranty period then you'll get a full refund.

  • That's true. So according to tith this deal is on at Forrest hill?

I have this chair and I hate it! The mesh stretched out within a few months, the back cushion is cheap foam that flattened and I could feel the bolts (had to pad it with cotton) through that.

The seat cushion itself is ok. Nothing to praise about but I suppose I should give it credit for outlasting everything else.

I should have known better when one of the parts on the back of the seat snapped off. Also perhaps I constructed it poorly but the seat is so noisy! It creeks constantly tried WD40 but I was unable to locate the source of the sound :(

Honestly if you're after a mesh-back chair go for something else. Don't waste your money on this unless it's for someone you don't like very much.

Cheers, think that has settled the debate.

    • I mistakenly didn't read these comments before visiting. I have just finished assembling it and the quality control isn't there.

The only positive is the headrest is surprisingly well built. A clone of something much more expensive. I couldn't fault it.

But I have off centre bolts, missing bolts, different thickness washers, poor welds, several attempts at cutting the hole in the PVC (lots of figure 8 patterns), caster wheels where some spin freely and others are more sticky.

The worst bit imho is the first diagram on the box, clearly shows a reclining function. The chair can't recline.

      Back to aldi you go.

"The worst bit imho is the first diagram on the box, clearly shows a reclining function. The chair can't recline."

Maybe you had the recline lock set.

Mine is heading back due to it being uneven. Mine also had the figure-8 patterns. Disappointing.

If you are in a capital city, before you buy this or any cheap office furniture, check gumtree for second-hand commercial furniture that will last for years. You can often get much higher quality (Herman Miller, Steelcase, etc.) for less than the price of cheap, new stuff from a discounter.

There are always desks, conference tables, office chairs, file cabinets, partitions, cubes, shelves, etc. on offer, 70-90% off original cost and sometimes for free, either directly from the business that used them, or from a surplus reseller. Office fit-outs might factor in staffing growth that doesn't occur, so some of it is lightly used or as-new.

Example of what you can get: I'm sitting on a $100 Steelcase Think chair (original retail cost over $700) that's the same model I've used at work for 5 years. It came with the original hang-tag on it, so it was probably never used.

    • Last time I looked up used office chairs on gumtree, 90% of them looked like they went through a radioactive fart boom!

      • +1

Clearly you and I are timing our trawling of gumtree differently.

I'm in Sydney. Pickings are pretty good here. Just look for Steelcase, and unless things have changed quite a lot in the past week, they're still there. (They're not listed as Think, which is probably why they're still there. You have to be familiar enough with them to know what you're seeing.)

tks for the tip, went to lansvale nsw today to pick up a steelcase think chair, couldn't be happier!

        • @Tyler Kwok: Yup, that's the place. He's had them advertised for weeks. I'm really surprised they didn't go more quickly, even at his original higher pricing.

        • Which Gumtree buyer where you looking at and which chair did you purchase?

        • +3

@Acestrikerz: just search in gumtree with key word "steelcase think chair" within NSW. Find the ad which located in Lansvale with name Ken.

        • +1

@Tyler Kwok: very nice chair! Just got an orange one this morning. Seems to be much more worth it than the Aldi chair

        • @Acestrikerz: Yup, I went for the orange ones as well.

        • Thanks for the tip! they look good, a bit far for me to get to, so hopefully the delivery is reasonable.

        • @Gmetal: If it isn't, check airtasker for someone to do it more cheaply. I live out in the Eastern Suburbs and don't have a car. Delivery was $100 for 1 or multiple items, which is a bit steep but given the distance, I didn't think it was very likely I'd find anyone who'd do it more cheaply via airtasker. To make it more reasonable, I got a couple chairs and a couple file pedestals ($50 each, great under my IKEA table desk).

        • +1

@NWLikeShopping: Ah good idea. I ended up haggling him to 150 total delivered, he originaly quoted 130 for the chair, 40 for delivery, which seems ok, but i probably could have gone a bit lower. The airtasker idea is great, there have been a few situations where I could have used that.

        • @Gmetal: Well done! $150 delivered is a good price.

  • Can anyone comment on the standing desk or back lumbar supports they're selling?

  • I got one of these chairs today. The gas lift doesn't sit in the base evenly - spinning around on it shows how uneven it is. It'll be making a trip back to the shop today. (Even tried re-seating the gas lift pipe bit - after much struggle disassembling, it went back to the same crooked position after sitting on the chair again.)

    • I was so close to buying this chair until I saw this comment

  • More low quality crap from Aldi.
