damnit, bought at $480.25 from the last deal!

    • haha me too :(

    • +5

Jesus Christ, you lost $15 on $500 deal! Your life will never be the same again…

  • I though i would have to wait for few month after the last deal. Damnnn!!! Thank you so much. Grabbed one ;)

  • Why does the Hero 5 only show up when searching the Teds store but not when searching the main 20% off landing page?

    • it was listed at 04-Oct 15:59

  • Much better than the Hero 4 Silver? That thing was a game changer.

    • stabilization, voice control

      • Stabilization, yes.Voice control, not too sure if the tech is there yet. Can't wait for people to just shout out commands at random.

    • compared to the Hero 4 Silver:

4k 25-30fps, waterproof without the need for a case, electronic/software stabilisation for 1080p 30fps (not to be confused with optical stabilisation), voice control, and (maybe) better battery life.

  • finally pulled the pin on a go pro! was waiting for this finally something in these sales worth buying. thanks op.

    Fixed focus is so 2015!
Mavic Pro Auto Focus….GoPro shares dive!

    • +1

They have different focal lengths. Wide-angle lenses have a wide depth of field so they can do just fine with fixed focus.

  • I still don't understand why Silver has a display, yet Black doesn't have one.

    • +2

      the hero 5 black does

      • My bad, I thought this deal is for Hero 4 Black which does not have a display for some reasons.

    • the black has a touch display?

      • Yup.

    • It's called Marketing as i know. During product development, they will have to choose which options/features to put in the camera. If the Black has a screen, it would reduce the sale of the Silver, battery life,…

  • just pulled the trigger…thanks OP
    Never had GoPro before…

Is this better than the yi 4k

    • Asking the budding questions.

    • I can't see the Yi being any better, but even if it's similar I hate to say it but I'd still take the gopro for the resale if you don't end up liking/using it.

You'll probably get $400 for this second hand in 3 months. A Yi cam you'll probably get $100.

    • -1

This one is more reliable in use - which is the most important thing about action cams. I own both the yi and couple of gopros. The Yi is way slower and always has problems with wi-fi.

      • Well the Yi 2 ain't even out yet.
At least wait for release before you make comments about it's speed and reliability.

And yeah, I've the original Yi… but I'm starting to look at the 4K SJCAM's now which are coming in around $200 delivered.

        • +1

I've got the new Yi 4K… It's been amazing, I've had it since July. The specs are quite comparable to the GoPro Blacks but with a much lower pricetag. The app is a bit buggy but they've been fixing it up lately.

  • We need to buy separate SD card right?

    • Yes you do, there is no in-built storage.

(profanity) I was waiting all day for this and I (profanity) missed it. Spewing.

Got the alert, added to cart, forgot cashrewards, went through that site, added to cart, went to checkout, realised i need to shift funds, waited for internet banking to log in, expired and never got logged in. Love slow internet!!!

      • Could get lucky and they may add some more.

        • Fingers crossed, I'm sure there'll be deals again in the future even if they don't :)

      • +1

the number of times I have missed deals just because of logging into cashrewards …

    • +1

Blame the guy who bought 4

      • I can't believe people actually bother reselling this stuff at retail price.

        • sometimes you need a few for 360 or for multiple cams

      • +5

That was me, actually got it for 4 different people.

  • +2

I ordered one but might decide not to keep them (too many impulse purchases!). Happy to sell it at the price I paid for to someone that can pick up in Sydney area (Townhall station). PM me.

@#$%! Missed It By 2 Minutes. Had spent at least an hour today looking for the best deal for this GoPro, across the US finally deciding I would wait for a deal on Aussie stock. Only to get home check OzBargain, do a little dance and start logging into CashRewards then eBay, only to find my password manager is unusable requiring a critical update. Wait 5-6 minutes for the update to download and install. Then login, only to miss it by 2 minutes. I had even emailed Ted's yesterday before stores were confirmed to see if they could add it, only receiving the reply that they 'couldn't'. Grrr! Rant Over.

PS. Have messaged Ted's via eBay to see if they would add more stock/take orders. Will keep you updated, although judging by yesterday's email reply I'm not holding my breath given the shitty reply I got.

    • What was the email reply yesterday? Don't understand why anyone would be shitty about adding more GoPros considering they're charging RRP and eBay covers the diff.

      • +1

The reply I got when I enquired whether they could add it to their eBay store was "Unfortunately, we are unable to add it to our eBay store at this time." Having spent years in retail management, I thought that was a pretty ordinary response, as it didn't give any reason whatsoever. Upon pressing further about when I could expect it to be listed the response I got was "Unfortunately, not sorry. It might be best to check again a couple of weeks."

Hmm. Clearly didn't want the sale. Regardless of the discount, it is stores like this that are rolling out the red carpet to overseas purchasing.

        • Hmmmmm sounds like they added some this afternoon to see how they'd go. Don't have high hopes for them adding too many more then.

        • @savebueller:
This is their reply, "At this point it doesn't look like we will have stock to re-list before the end of the sale"

        • @one two three: sweet. Means I can stop watching it then.

    • Did they reply your messaged on eBay?

      • This is their reply, "At this point it doesn't look like we will have stock to re-list before the end of the sale"

  • missed this!! when is it possible for them to restock?

  • Let us know when it comes back , i missed it as well :(

  • +1

Nothing hurts more than buying a GoPro Hero 5 at JBHIFI and coming here to see this for $465.91 :'(

    • I feel you man. The only reason I didn't see this deal is because after all day checking eBay and finding nothing I decided to drive to the good guys to purchase a hero5 for $548.

      • Ouch

  • This is going to sound dumb, but man what makes a Go Pro so freakn sharp, clear and crisp?
I've shot 4K video on a Lumix digital camera but it doesn't 'pop' like the videos on the promo ads for GoPros do.

Or is that a case of expert handling and post processing making the go pro vids look way better than the average home user could manage?

    • +1

You answered your own question man :(. The people who make their videos have a very good understanding and access to pro as software.

If you tried recording with a GoPro, you will see that a lot of editing is required to make the colors pop. If you have access to some of the Adobe software, definitely look into LUTS for a quick fix.

      • Gopro also looks great due to high frame rates whereas cameras usually opt for 24/30 frames gopro averages 60 and can hit 120-240
Plus since it has a small sensor most of what is captured is in focus yet with good cameras the aperture blurs out backgrounds
Also pro gopro footage is stabilized with a gimbal which gives the cinematic professional touch

        • +1

high frame rates doesn't apply for 4k though, GP5 still shoots 4K at 30fps

    • It is mainly due to the super wide angle lens where pretty much everything is in focus. The lenses your use probably were super wide angle lens. However, one reason people use DSLR or mirrorless for video is the ability to change the depth of field and get the bokeh look.

      • Also it's noted that the gopro's sensor is much smaller than DSLR's which makes the DOF even wider

  • FK !! I MISSED IT AGAIN AND AGAIN!!!!!!!!!

  • Look at this listing, what a jib http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/GoPro-HERO5-Black-/262657841310?h… they want $645 for it. Take 20% off its still $516.

    • +1

Plus shipping. Kek. May as well go and use a 25 voucher and get it at Good Guys for 525.

  • Can anyone recommend a good bargains on the MicroSD card for the GoPros - anything in 64 or 128gb range? Always get so confused with the speeds required for 4K - is it 80MB/s write speed required?

    • +1

30mb/s sustained write is needed for 4K. Anything marked with UHS3 is sufficient.

      • +2

Not necessarily. 4K is just the resolution; it's bitrate that determines the required write speed.

I just did a test recording on my Hero 5. The resulting 4K 25p file had a bitrate of 60Mbps which is about 7.5MB/s. I was using an entry-level 128GB UHS-1 Sandisk micro SD card. The GoPro didn't complain.

The official list on GoPro's website shows nearly all UHS-1 cards; there's only one UHS-3 card there.

    • +1

30MB/s write is recommended for 4k.
You can record 4k fine with10 or 20MB/s but it's not recommended.

In the 128gb options your best value cards are:

      [Sandisk Extreme 128gb](http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SanDisk-32GB-64GB-128GB-Extreme-m…)
      Read 90MB/s
      Write 60MB/s
      $72 (after ebay discount)

      Or

      [Lexar 633x 128gb](http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Lexar-16GB-32GB-64GB-128GB-200GB-…)
      Read 95MB/s
      Write 45MB/s
      $68 (after ebay discount)
      includes a free USB3 adapter.

      Or

if you're feeling rich and would like to splash some cash
      [Lexar 1800x 128gb](https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1211502-REG/lexar_lsd…)
      Read 270MB/s
      Write 100MB/s
      about $160-170
      includes a free USB3 adapter.
