I have ordered from these guys a couple of times and I have to say they have the best packing/packaging out of all the online stores I have bought from. Just thought I would throw it out there as it is something I consider when buying online and love to get feedback on such things before I buy.

+1. I even got a cheeky 4 pack of an Estonia beer once. Would never have tried it otherwise and was a dam good beer! made my day getting that for free although im sure its not the norm and depends on how much/what you buy…

      • +1 for both of you, same here

        • Yeah they are great. I've gotten a few cartons of beer and some whiskey from them. Never managed to score the free 4-pack though.

yaamzaki 12 year for $270 you gotta be shitting me. These used to be $120 from dan murphys :(

    • Yeah, the shortage has really pushed prices up everywhere. Would've been a good investment!

    • +1

'Used to' being the operative word here. They are hard to find nowadays and impossible to get at that price anymore.

    • limited stock nowadays and running out very soon that's why…

      • temporary shortage?

        • +2

I'm not totally convinced there was a shortage.
I feel that it was just a heap of suppliers who held back the stock so they can hike the prices.

Cuz when i went to japan during the supposed shortage, there were PLENTY on the shelves even in convenience stores like 7/11, HeartOn, Lawson and Family Mart.

        • they running out of stock due to the popularity of the single malt. I should have stock them and not drink them lol…

        • -delete- double post

    • I don't rate it at $120 tbh. "Japanese whisky" has been overrated.

Want to try something good? Give Amrut Portonova a go. It's Indian. Warning that if you actually like Japanese whisky this is not similar and does not have the harshness.

Edit: careful that portonova must be given time to oxidize over a few weeks or it will taste bad

For a relaxing time, make it Suntory time….

    • You beat me to it.

  • Can recall in the 70's Suntory whisky was the cheapest of them all at possibility around $18-20/bottle but then again the exchange rate was AUD1=JPY250

    • +1

Japan has made a pretty good name for themselves especially in terms of the quality whisky that comes from there now.
I remember at the world whisky competition they actually out ranked and beat the scotts.

I know it's personal preference but I enjoy Nikka from the barrel better than suntory. Both are great but Nikka is much better value

From my understanding, they have since rebranded the packaging to not include the years on the bottles no more. Probably the first batch coming out from production after getting rid of numbered labelled bottles. So if you manage to find one with a 12/17 or even 21, snap it up (Or you could go to Japan, I bought the equivalent of this for $38 dollars in a random shop)

These are a seperate run of Hibiki, the 12, 17, 21YO are all still available as is the standard Japanese Harmony (non master select).
The masters select contains a small amount extra of Yamazaki sherry cask and that's why they charge more for it, normally a duty free exclusive in Australia but this is a direct import.

  • Just 4 years ago I bought a Hibiki 17yr for $160 at the airport…that's a lot of inflation in the meantime.

  • Next time I go to Japan i'll be loading up on Yamazaki, $260 god damn

  • Deals are still out there - I picked up a Hakushu 12 for $135 (with $10 coupon) from my local First choice last month

    • That's a good price, I have been looking and can't seem to find any Hakushu 12, which store did you get it from?

      • That was Flemington - now all sold out :-)

Dans Ascot Vale had the 12 today, but at $159. Also was surprised to see bottles of Hibiki Japanese Harmony there @ $115. I've left one on the shelf for whoever gets there first :-)

  • Is this Harmony Master Select same as the Harmony master select selling at duty free? Some Dan Murphys stores still sales the Yamazaki 12 at $140 if you get lucky. Last time I saw them at DM Alphington and Malvern.

    • I believe so. I have a bottle from duty free and it looks the same. Might be lucky enough to get a second bottle tonight with a relative coming in from OS.

  • 6 months ago I saw the Hibiki Master Select at airport duty free going for$115 AUD and I have a picture for it, unsure how to upload though.. just saying

    • Just saw it for $115 at Perth airport duty free.

  • Bought 2 of the Yamazaki 12yo in July from Ameyayokocho market for 170 each. And now I just bought another 2. :D
