when i think of dumplings in Melbourne, these are 4 of the last restaurants i would think of.. and to claim that "Tim Ho Wan is one of Melbourne's best Chinese restaurants" is a freaking joke. The one in Melbourne should be ashamed to have the same name as the excellent one in HK.

couldn't agree more, "slips a red pocket under the table"

    • +3

i have heard this, i was asked to go quite a few times because apparently its cheap food and has a michelin star,
turns out the hong kong one has the star and the melbourne one has nothing and is really crap

      • +1

Even in Hong Kong, only 1 of the branches has the star. Every where else is 0 stars. The issue with this is that sometimes franchisees dont uphold the same standard as the parent restaurant. However, I feel one good exception is Ding Tai Fung. I have eaten at this restaurant from many countries globally and they all are very close in terms menu offering, taste and service. So it boils down to good franchise management and supply chain logistics.

It is one of the best. It might be number 145 on that list, but it is still on the list.

I wouldnt go Dragon Boat even if you put a gun to my head. That place is horrible.

    • The only worthy dumpling restaurant is Din Tai Fung. These are just overpriced fan fare
