Question about The Price Decrease in JB Hi-Fi

hi guys, i just brought a xbox 360 elite for 499 from jb hifi ten days before, and i realized that the same offer price just changed to 299 this week, i was so shock about they change the offer price in such a short time and such big price decrease. So i was wondering can i go back and argue with their manager and see whether i can get compensation for the price gap between the new offer and previous offer ten days before. Any comments will be helpful.
Thx

Buy a new one and return it under the old receipt? Or are the serial numbers and that recorded….

    • apart from it being fraudulent, they dont have to provide a refund for items that are not faulty. I'd find out what the deal is though, in case you're stuck with 2 xbox's lol

  • You can't get compensation…You made a legal contract to buy it for the price JB Hi-Fi offered.

how about today u just sell your aud into usd at the rate 0.85 cents, 10 days later the usd rate is 0.90 cents. can u go back to the bank/money changer and asking for the different?
come on guys, you agree at certain price. thats what it call time = value of money.

    • Hmm, I don't actually think it's quite like that..

It's not an unreasonable request - some stores do actually offer this kind of thing. If you buy something and it decreases within a certain amount of time after purchase..is it Good Guys?

Although maybe the phrase 'argue with their manager' is what got people offside..

HN as well I think like if you find the item within 7 days or was it 30 days they give you back 110% of the difference.

      well said dragonrabit.

calvinlee - the fact is in any industry when new models are announced, the old models depreciate in value.
nobody knew about the new console otherwise it would have been all over the internet.

you wouldn't buy a t-shirt for $50, wear it for a week and then try to take it back because they're having a 50% off sale.

you pay the amount it's worth to you at the time. you paid extra money to have it for that 10 days extra before the price went down.

  • It could probably worth speaking to the store manager.

Most big store take back change of mind within 28 days with receipt.

If it is a pure change of mind, they could offer a store credit, which in your case would allow you to buy the Xbox again and leave some money too buy other things. However, I would suggest that you try doing it asap and do it when the store is not very busy to get undivided attention.

Personally, I have had not very great experience with staff at JBHiFi. But at most other large retailers I have had very good customer service even for returns.

Not knowing your circumstances, but if you purchased with a credit card, most Gold and Platinum cards have a purchase price guarantee protection, you might have to check that with you credit card for details.

    Hope this helps.

Mate, pls go back to JB hifi and complain.

I bought a TV last year for 2700 then 5 days later it was for 2400. I went to JB and said i want some compo. They gave me a 200 gift card

so go to the manager or ring up and say what happened

  • Hi CalvinLee what is the status on your inquiry. Just curious, did anything work?

    • hi mate, JB just sucks, i went there and they just said they r sorry, and show me the "terms and conditions"—Prices for items on an order are fixed once your Order has been accepted. Subsequent price changes either up or down will not be retroactively applied to accepted Orders. JB HIFI just sucks.

  • I would return it…with receipt, stating gift for my teenager (or me, or insert what fits) for birthday but his grandparents bought one too…and now I have 2 (depending on whether you can repack in original packaging)…then if you get refund….pop off to another JB and buy at cheaper price. Or….failing that, state that it is faulty, can't get it to play…and want a full refund…once again off you go to another store and repurchase. Works for me….especially choose dumbest looking store person, on busy day and appear antsy.
And lastly as "Trance n Dance" stated…buy the new one and return it on old receipt…..have done this before….works a treat. I'm bad but with limited funds want a good deal for my buck.

    • Could you please clarify about returning new on old receipt. If they won't take the old one why would they take the new on the old receipt.

Unless the issue is opened and used package. In that case, that is a smart way to get the better of the retailer.

With JB Hi Fi I agree. It just sucks. One Friday we negotiated a price for a Sony TV. On Saturday we go back to buy, the guy said that he did not agree to that price. He just lied.

  • Check if your credit card offers protection against this sort of things. Many gold/platinum cards will cover you for price drops within a month or two.
