To the person asking if it's good for uni…
i got something very similar - a eeepc 1000ha. It is PERFECT for uni use. Runs 700mb movies smoothly but a little choppy running 1.3gb ones. Music, no problem, and ms office, no problem either. You might want to think about upgrading the ram for browsing though, i only go 1 gb and it lags like hell when multi-windowing. Battery life easily 6hrs+ with a 6cell. The leveno might be a bit better than the specs described here as my eeepc is ooold as, but lemme restate that these little 10" are the best for uni.

Dont even think about playing pc games on them though xD

  • You did good fellator…

    • Incidentally, the direct call number in the ad (02 9286 0225) is wrong; should be 02 9281 8982 (after 10am).

BTW, why do they call you fellator…?

  • Thanks

  • good deal, i'd be all over this if i didnt have a netbook :/

Went to orangeIT last week (assuming ebay store = orange it)

EDIT: i dont think the 2nd two links are orangeit, but another ebayer

  • how long would the netbook last on that battery and would this netbook be good enough to run ms office + maybe movies and music? (mainly uni use)

    • the s10e is quite reliable, just read some reviews about it.

    • I am using it right now. It's great for uni. Battery last approx 5 hours.
If you are a Engineering or math student, i have to warn you that certain software might not work due to the capabilities of this netbook.
Softwares like Mathematica and Matlab works fine. For matlab though, try not to solve questions that requires millions of iterations or extremely long solve times. The netbook is not capable of running softwares like Solidworks, just fyi.

  • $286 @ MLN for "Lenovo Ideapad S10e Netbook Atom 270, 1G, 160G, XP".
Postage from eBay is cheaper though.

  • I've had one of these for 2 weeks now (purchased from mln.com.au) and I'm very happy with it. The most surprising thing was the 1Gb of RAM which is soldered to the motherboard leaving the Slot free for more RAM. One small niggle tho' is the WiFi, which is about 30% down on signal strength from my other 3 laptops.

    • Speaking of which, is there an optimal quantity of RAM for these Atom netbooks? (all pretty similar specs) I replaced the 1GB with 2GB in an hp with Win7 32.

      • Mine has XP installed on it and with an extra 1Gb stick in the RAM slot giving me 2Gb it's nice & speedy. I use it for Video Chat, surfing with Opera with 10 tabs open etc

  • Lenovo S10e is otherwise a great little netbook, but as can be seen from the main photo on eBay, the 6 cell battery does not really sit nicely in the body, but bulges out. I have a S10 also with a 9 cell battery and that lasts for about 5-7 hours, depending on how heavy the usage is. But I think the 9 cell battery sticks out even worse than the 6 cell one, not sure though. I think other brands have 6 and 9 cell batteries that sit nicely inside the body of the netbook, making them both look nicer and easier to handle. Still, not a bad deal for a S10e. And you can get OSX installed on them too.

  • Why must Lenovo place Fn key on the lower left corner? That should always be the CTRL key. CTRL is used more than FN!!!

    • The S10 has a very unconventional keyboards format.
The "Esc" key is not in the right place either, and
      "F12" is "Fn + F11".
and the right Shift key is tiny.

It will take sometime for you to get used to it.
      Other than that, it's great.

      • And it overheats doing anything decent due to a fan/heatsink issue, the s10-2 model fixed most of the problems on the s10(e)

        • I've had mine for 2 weeks, thrashed it and it's never overheated. However the fan intake is on the bottom, so if you put it on a bed or carpet it'll definately heat up. Totally fine on tables & hard surfaces.

        • Just to clarify on the point made by Mikinoz.

If you are the kind person that constantly upgrades or buy new laptops, then this is NOT something i would recommend.

However, if you are like the majority of people out there, who do not scrutinise specs, and can't tell the difference between the N270, N280 and Z series processors, then this netbook is great.

If you do own a laptop that 4 years or older, this machine produces way less heat and less noise then your laptop.

However, it produces more noise than a brand-new "recently bought" laptop. I mean, most laptop nowadays are pretty much extremely quiet.

          Hope this helps.

  • Does this model Lenovo have the sim card slot and Mini-PCIe slot for WWAN? Great price if it does..!!

    • yes/no, it does have a mini pci slot which is occupied by the wireless card from memory

  • if wanting the best warranty look for ASUS with 3 years

    • (NB: warranty for eeepc's is 1 year)
