Mango Season - Best Places to Buy?

My favourite time of year is nearly upon us - mangos are back in season!

Where do OzBargainers find are the best places to buy mangos? The supermarkets usually have them for $2 or $3 each once supply kicks in properly, unless they are super over ripe and they discount them down from there. But I really love finding them for $1 each or even less…

1) Can one order a tray wholesale / online? If so from where?
2) Are the major fruit/veg markets a good place to buy a whole tray at a good price? I don't usually venture in to vic market or anything in Melbourne but will make the trip if it's worth while. Any suggestions?

  • So, I'm thinking of setting up a Bank and calling it:
    First Bank of Mango™

Big Watermelon Bushy Park in Wantirna if you're close to it. They do deals on trays once the season's in full swing, $10 or so. Chop up any excess and freeze.

    • LOL love the name Big Watermelon!…. That's not too far for me!

      Thanks for the tip!!

For us cold southerners, this is sadly not an option :(

      Jealous

  • Costco/local market sell them by boxes when they in season :)

    • Not a costco member :( Cant justify the membership fee.

  • Gleadell St market in Richmond on Saturdays.

  • Aldi consistently had cheaper prices of Lychees compared to Colsworths for the last few summers - so it may be similar with Mangoes? I grew up with an abundance of mangoes in FNQ and I now prefer Lychees.

  • Do you live close to a large market? doesn't have to be Vic market but Preston, Dandenong, Footscray. etc You can usually pick up a whole box for very cheap ($10 a box) close to closing time esp if the next day is a no market day. Why do you need so many mangoes?!

    • Why do you need so many mangoes?!

      LOL you make funny joke.

      "Why do you need oxygen?"

  • The asian markets, but don't buy the cheap C-D grade ones. We stock right up in summer and freezer everything for other seasons.

  • Usually in the middle of november big grocery stores start to have mangoes on sale
