Returning/Repairing $600 Bag From David Jones, Bought 11 Months Ago

Has anyone tried to return a bag for refund or repair from David Jones?
Did you have the original receipt? Was it okay if you had a photocopy/photograph or a bank statement?

Invested in a nice bag from David Jones almost exactly 11 months ago and one of the threads has just started unravelling itself. The thread holds 2 leather pieces together, one of which has half the magnetic closing mechanism which keeps the flap closed. If the thread comes loose, the bag becomes useless as it will not shut properly.

Would appreciate hearing anyone else's experience with a similar situation before I head instore to try my luck. Thanks!

Bank statements are fine. They can look up your purchase using the date, card number used to pay for the item and barcode. Best to return it to the store you purchased it from i.e. if you bought it at Chadstone, return it at Chadstone

    $600 Bag

    LOL

  • It shouldn't be a problem if it's one of David Jone's own brands, not from the Concession brands. I got a bag from them a few years ago from a sale and the shoulder strap completely came apart after a few months of wear, returned it without any issues. I did have the receipt but in your case, I'm sure the credit card statement showing the transaction is fine. They can look it up on their system.

However, once I got a Coach bag from the David Jones Melbourne CBD store, and the Coach girls won't take it back or repair it for free even though the internal lining ripped within a year. The only thing they can do is charge me $70+ to "assess it". Never bought another Coach after that.

Compare that to my friend's Bally bag bought from DJ. They suggested a less than acceptable solution to fix it. So the friend took it to the Bally store and they sent it away to be fixed for free.

Yeah I had a similar experience. I got a Ferragamo bag from Reebonz, put some leather conditioner on it thinking that I'm protecting the bag, but for some reason the leather is different and some of the products got caked in the creases and dried to flakes. So under good lighting, you can see slight white streaks. The girl at the DJ counter couldn't help at all so I went to the stand alone Ferragamo store instead.

I eventually just discovered that with some leather cleaner most of the residue came off anyway, so didn't need a repair in the end.

That sounds ridiculous. I've never been a fan of Coach (the repeating C logo just looks aesthetically weird to me). Thanks for the heads up regardimg quality and service!

Just get an unlimited overdraft. Then you can just buy another one without worrying about paying for it.
