I think egift cards can only be used in store. I only got barcodes, not egift card numbers or PINS

  • Can anyone confirm that the cost of shipping is counted in the $300 spend from HN?

EG: New tv costs $280, and shipping is $20, making total of $300…would that still qualify for the cashback?

    • +1

      yes

      • Sweet - thanks mate ;)

    • Doesn't matter what you do, as long as AMEX sees $300+ on the card in a single transaction, you shouldn't have any issues

      • +4

Wrong, the $300+ can be on two or more transactions for this offer.

  • I spent $300 at HN last Thursday and got the confirmation email from Amex immediately. However, the €100 still hasn't come back on to my NAB credit card. Who do I call? NAB or Amex?

  • Need to spend $1200, do you think I can split across 4 cards?

    • Yes.

      • I agree. If they give you stick buy some gift cards on one of the cards and then split between fewer cards

  • My experience today if anyone's interested. Tried buying vpay but the girl at the checkout didn't know what I was talking about. Got a $1200 gift card instead - bought across 4 supp cards. Used payWave, got emails for 3/4 cards for the credits.
Girl at the counter was not impressed at all. Saw I was paying with Amex cards lined up on the counter and commented that her manager said it wasn't allowed. She just waved it off saying she hates her job and told me to continue. Lol!

    Store was Capalaba / QLD.

    • i hope the store manager doesn't see this..

      • +1

You're assuming HN management know how to use the Internet.

    • +4

I was at Nunawading today and asked to buy a gift card. The staff memember said is this for the Amex promotion and I said 'what's that'

She then said they get gift card purchases all the time and the transaction could be made invalid and wanted to warn as they wouldn't return the card.

I just laughter made the purchase and had an email accepting before I had left the store lol

      • same at HN Wiley Park NSW today
Cashier told me that Gift card purchases are put on a different account and they are not eligible for Statement credit's.

Received emails straight away, fingers crossed for the credit's.

        • Fingers crossed this isn't the case!

        • @vox:I checked under Amex pending transaction and it shows "Harvey norman AV/IT/Wiley Park"

I purchased a camera in july this year using 2 Amex cards from the same store. I received two $50 credits for spending $350 on each..and the description was exactly the same.

Hopefully there shouldn't be any dramas.

      • +1

I was in HN today & they have a sign on the counter now saying HN Gift Cards and Vpay ecards are not eligible for the Amex deal. Bought one anyway, waiting for Amex email & credit.

        • Which store was this at?

        • Did receive any email from Amex?

        • @Purple: Not yet, but did not get the email immediately last week either. It came about a day later, and I got the credit a few days after that. Am expecting the same for this transaction. Bought a gift card in store both times.

        • It should be ok by the sounds of it. The credit should come through next week for u.

  • +2

Thanks OP. Picked up an iPad from HN.

On a side note, been told by the guys working that a chap went in for $3k purchase earlier and split amongst 10 AMEXes.

Another person went in with a few card for an iphone.

Poor girl at the cashier. But, she was nice and happy to help out, also said she would have done it herself too. Cool ppl that works in HN!

    • I know it must be annoying for the cashiers but for overall HN should be pleased. In some instances people may not ask for as many discounts because of this

  • Has anyone purchased from Fortitude Valley HN in Brisbane? Reason I ask is that it is a joint store with Domayne so am unsure if it would come out as a HN purchase or Domayne purchase.

    • in the past, it works on HN in Domayne, however no one can confirm this time.

Last time it took them more than 5 days for the credit to come through.

    • +1

Just in case you missed my other post, yes the Fortitude Valley HN works with the rebate. Bought three VPAYs and received emails immediately.

  • Purchased $600 HN Gift cards from Harvey Norman Wiley Park on 10-Nov with 2 different cards and another $600 HN Gift cards with 2 other Supply cards, received emails for all of them.

Placed online (back)order for iPhone 7 Plus 128 GB using two gift cards worth $1200 + balance on on a 5th Amex card.
Haven't received confirmation e-mail though. Any idea how long it takes to receive online confirmation emails to come through ?

    • Also, when I tried using the new supplementary cards I received, EFTPOS terminal asked for a signature rather than a PIN.
In this case, I was using my dad's card and I had to explain the same to the person on the counter and also asked them to take a photocopy of driver's license if need be.

I did setup a Pin while activating the supplementary card.

      • +1

Using someone else's card is starting to cross the line unless he's physically present, I believed. Even if it's a supplementary card on your account?

    • That's weird. I did a back order for a jet black 256 iPhone 7plus but didn't need to put any money down. I even asked if they wanted me to put some down and was happy to pay it all up front but the guy at HN Chadstone said not to bother.

He also told me that there was no guarantee of when that stock will come in soon and that at launch they only got 1 of the expected 10 iPhones to that store. Basically he implied that Apple was not very good a loading up the HN store with product and didn't want to take my cash early because of it.

      • I just picked up my iPhone 7 plus today.

When I first enquired about backordering the guy said I had to put 10% deposit down to secure the phone otherwise its first come first serve basis and they would not ring me when it came in. I rang the next day to put a deposit down and this other guy said no need that they will ring me when it comes in.
I felt uneasy and thought best to give a deposit so I called back and they said I needed to come in store to pay the deposit. The cashier lady said it's best to pay deposit because if I hadn't paid and the phone doesn't arrive by the 1st of Dec, the system automatically overrides your details as unpaid and you lose your "spot".

        • Thanks. I might go back and leave $300 on it. Which particular 7plus did you get? Jet black 256?

        • @danielh: I got 128gb rose gold. I paid $300 deposit as it makes it easier to split between 4 cards instead of 3 when the phone came. Peace of mind and at least you get the first $100 back!

    • is that the reason you got GCs? To place online(back)order?
I wanted an iphone 7, theres stock in some sydney stores, is my best best just driving to nearest store with stock and splitting purchases across my amex cards?

      • You can find 7 easily, but not 7 plus
I was told that online orders would be cleared first..

  • Just noticed that Harvey Norman Business & Education is up on CashRewards. Will save ~$14 on an iPad Air2 32gb ($531.88 with shipping vs $546 pickup). Are purchases on https://www.harveynormanbusiness.com.au eligible for the $100 amex credit? Worth risking for a $14 saving?

  • +1

In Gordon NSW they got little poster there you won't get money back on gift card for Amex …. and guy behind the counter was telling me that some one bought and he didn't get 100 back .. you can buy at your own risk … we will not take it back

    • That person being me in this case. I went there today at 2:30. I bought one yesterday it worked. But today's didn't get the email confirmation.

      • You'll still get the credit

      • how many did you buy ? they don't have 300 ones any more.. they said i needed to buy only 500 ones and not split payment either…

        • Whick HN did u purchased the GC from? I think they do have $300 gc in their drawer. The HN staff just envious of amex customer getting such a big credit.

        • @Purple: I didn't buy any because he I selling 500 one without split payment … we were talking about Gordon Harvey Norman

        • Wow. I got a $900 one split across three Amex at HN Chadstone with no issues. Also got the three emails.

        • @Purple:

At Nunawading they just wrote the value on so it's a strange practice to not offer them

As I have always said typically you would think this time of year is a big year for GC purchases. I don't see why the staff and the franchisees are being so protective and prohibitive to the sale of these.

Some stage of the process the money will flow back into HN so really it's I don't get why they would be so protective

      • I bought 3 @ $300 each, received email for all of them.

Me too saw the poster, but they didn't say anything to me tho

        • when did you buy? did you buy it from Gordon ? I am thinking to go to Bondi Junction on Tuesday….

        • @dumkaze: mid day today from Gordon.

In my mind, apart from sending the transaction details to Amex, the only other way to do this is via a new terminal, which they are not doing that.

  • How long is the expiry on the HN gift cards? 1 year?

    • Two years

  • Nooo, Harvey Norman credits done and dusted now? I only got my card approval on thursday and still waiting for my card :(

    • looks like it, I applied a few more supp cards to, but i guess it's too late

    • Damn. I was waiting on one more card to get $700 off my fridge. I guess $600 off will do, plus the $100 credit I still got after buying a prepaid Visa but having my payment refunded because the physical visa card had expired.

  • Can HN gift cards be used to purchase Visa or Vpay cards in-store?

    • no

  • You guys decided on what you're using your gift vouchers on?

I realised the Nintendo Switch is coming out soonish, might save it for that ;)

    • Harvey Norman don't currently stock any Nintendo products. I'm guessing they won't be selling the Switch.

      • Ahh that's a bummer!!!

Fingers crossed an appliance breaks down lol (said no one ever)

  • Confirmed that refunded denied egift cards got the 100 credit taken back…. :(

Seems no one has got the 100 credit taken back for gift card purchases.

    • +1

It has nothing to do with Gift cards..
Amex system has detected that the purchase(whatever it is, is refunded in full) and hence the statement credit was taken back..

Give it a few days and I expect the offer to be available from "Redeemed"

I remember registering myself to an offer from Hotels.com, Spend $300 get $50.
I cancelled my hotel booking and the statement credit was taken back.

      • I had an in-store purchase refunded in full moments after the payment was taken on Nov 1. I received the credit Nov 3. The credit has not yet been reversed.

        • Did you refund to other card? ;)

        • @lilkid28:
Nope. I thought of doing that moments after I left the store.

        • Wait for few more days

        • @spk: I'm actually going to be spending on it again anyway because a supplementary card didn't arrive in time.

  • After waiting over a week I still have not received the credit. Contacted AMEX and they said I enrolled in the program on the 2/11 and made the purchase on 1/11.

When in actual fact (brisbane time):
    * Enrolled and received email 2/11 8:12am
    * Made online purchase of a smartphone 2/11 8:21am

No idea where they got the 1/11 date from. Maybe because I in London at the time and my purchase was on 1/11 (local time)

  • HN not longer available?

  • Iconic is expired

    • How do you know it is expired? Coz I just asked my relative to enrol and not sure how they went.

      • because it says its used up when you try to enrol

        • damn T.T bad luck. About to buy from the iconic. I don't own AMEX, about to borrow my aunt's card. Guess I'm just so late.

  • does anyone know if the coles prepaid reloadable can only be used by using credit function?

    • yes

    • -1

No - you can use Savings.

In fact I think when withdrawing from an ATM you have to use Savings.

For purchases it probably doesn't matter either way. Both should work.

      • ATM I used credit and it worked

        • Ok, I stand corrected on that, but..

Can only be used by using credit function

I'm not saying you can't use Credit. I'm saying it's not the only option (for purchases)

        • @illumination:
so whats the verdict. SAV cannot be used. must be Credit?

        • @stevoplaystation: From the comments by me and Turd sounds like both can be used?

  • Sorry if this is mentioned somewhere upthread, but does anyone know if it's still possible to register new cards ? Got some supp cards on the way.

    • The HN deal has been fully enrolled so it won't be possible to enroll your supp cards anymore unfortunately.

  • +1

I finally bought my fridge. Split over 7 cards without any issues. The checkout operator hadn't even heard of the deal, so I guess not many others have done the same at this store.

    Electrolux EHE5267SA. $2799rrp. Everywhere sells it for $2499 though. I got it for $2180 - $700 in credits - $200 manufacturer cashback = $1280. Pretty much half price :)

My other option was a Fisher and Paykel; same rrp, same normal price, offered for $2200 with a $200 HN gift card. Or I could have got an older model electrolux from JB for ~$1700 with discounted gift cards.

    • How did you get it that cheap ?

      • +1

The salesperson offered $2200 straight up the first time I went in (which was before the Fisher & Paykel was advertised with a $200 gift card). Then I went back and showed her the Good Guys 20% off eBay sale which had the Fisher and Paykel for $1998. She offered $2180 on the Electrolux, which brings it down to less than the Good Guys one after the manufacturer cashback. She couldn't move from $2200 for the Fisher & Paykel because it came with a $200 HN gift card.

  • Can someone confirm you received the cashback from purchases made at Harvey Norman at Domayne stores?

Such as HN @ DM North Ryde, HN @ DM Belrose, HN @ DM Auburn, HN @ DM Alexandria etc.

    • No

      • +1

you can't confirm or you haven't received the cashback?

        • There are comments in the thread saying that it will not work beacuse the AMEX output says DOMAYNE instead of HARVEY NORMANS. I forgot which page but yeah click on 'view all' and check it out

        • @Turd:

Yeah I read those. They said it worked last year but speculated it may not work this year. Not confirmatory.

    • It works at HN at the QV building in Melbourne which is seprately branded from the Domayne furniture section. I suggest that the different cashiers would get a different response

    • +1

I did mine at HN @ Domayne Alexandria. Got all credits fine.

    • +1

I bought 2 x Vpay cards (at the very beginning of the AMEX promo, so no issues buying them with AMEX) at HN @ DM Belrose.

AMEX transactions came through as Domayne Belrose - bummer. One card was AMEX issued, I emailed AMEX (via secure email) to explain the situation and got a prompt reply saying they will process the credit manually, credit showed up after a couple of days from the email reply.
Other card was NAB issued, again I sent a secure email, got a generic reply that it could take up to 90 days (!) and be patient… eventually the credit showed up about 10 days later :)

  • anyone know if the iconic gift cards work with this amex deal?

    • Not sure, but the Iconic offer has expired anyway.

  • Bought a $300 VPay GC at Gordon today. There is a $5.50 fee.

They weren't happy, warned me twice about no guarantee I will get the $100 credit and made me sign on their receipt.

Got the Amex email immediately. Now will anxiously wait for the $100 credit to appear before I use my other amex cards.

    • Be interested to see if anything's been done on the back end to explicitly report GC transactions to AMEX, even if it's a manual process.

I doubt it, but you never know. Keep us posted.

      • HUGE breach of privacy there!!!

Think an email to ACCC is needed

        • That's what I would have thought that the privacy implications would prevent an investigation. Surely HN must have better things to do than run a report, extract all transactions to Amex and ask them to reverse it. Really its not in either parties interests too; for HN the funds in theory will eventually flow back albeit in another time period and for Amex they still have merchant fees.

The attitude of HN has been disappointing on this in particular the online store that cancelled the transactions. At the end of the day (or beginning) really I dont get why they are being so precious about it

        • +1
