[Sorted] ME Bank - Online Savings Account - Interest Stuff up

Some of you may still have the Online Savings Account from ME Bank, with it's weekly paywave hoop jumping.

To save you calling them, they are aware they've stuffed up payment of the Bonus Interest for October. Some were paid partial interest, and others not paid at all. Claim they will remedy this week.

Hello ME, how about an email or SMS to keep us in the loop??

  • ME Bank isn't going to reply to you here.

  • I just emptied my ME account. Had a horrid time just trying to take the money out though.

Unfortunately their call centre is quite incompetent, as they gave me the wrong information several times and I had to make about 7 phone calls over 2 weeks just to transfer money.

    • Did you go to RAMS?

Although RAMS rate is higher than ME, I'm still dirty about them dropping the interest rate mid month so you couldn't bail out without penalty.

Just in Ubank for now. Might put some into shares.

I feel like it's a bit of a chore to have to spend weekly with a ME transaction card, and it's not worth it for the amount of cash savings I have.

ME is one of the banks to AVOID. They used to have their internet banking and mobile app down while it's off their business hours. Some people were stuck in the counters and couldn't transfer $ and pay for their shopping. They paid me incorrectly most times when the 5% paypass cashback was going. I am really upset with their service.

Ahh cool.. I had the exact same problem. Sent them a message via email but haven't heard back yet.

Thanks so much for posting. I knew something was up but hadn't got around to calling them yet.

  • I have the ME Mastercard only for paying Jetstar flights to avoid booking fees

  • Interest? I only put $1 in there so I could do my weekly 1c Paypass transactions.

    • 1c Paypass transactions.

Why? The card links to the ETA (Everyday Transaction Account) not the OSA which earns bonus interest.

      • ME Bank in general. Didn't set up an online savings account.

Bonus Interest payment appears to have been resolved this afternoon in my account.

    • Just checked and it seems to have been fixed as well (although I haven't manually calculated it, wouldn't even know how to do that)

      • did you do ratios at school ;)

        1.30% Base
        1.75% Bonus

        • Well, interest is calculated on a daily basis. So if you didn't keep the exact balance the same within the whole month) then you
need to calculate the intetest based on the balance at the end of EACH day for the whole month to check if they pay you correctly. It's very complicated to me and kinda waste of time.

        • @citygal: yep. If you really want to calculate, you would have to get the daily closing balance for each day and multiply by the daily interest rate.

Personally, if the interest for the month seems roughly correct, it's not worth calculating over dollars and cents.

          @tomsco:
That's right. It's just too much work.

Thanks for the forum post, was about to ring ME Bank to ask about my missing interest. Logged on this morning and found it was now appropriate interest depositied. Cheers~ :)

    • Why not Poli Payments at ME Bank to avoid Jetstar and Virgin fees?

      • Once you use Poli, they automatically get your daily limit set on the account, how many direct debits you have etc for their data purpose. It's stated in one of their T&C.

Also, you're entering your bank password to a non-bank website so your bank can refuse to dispute if there's any fraud. It's safer to enter your bank details directly in the bank website.

  • Hmmm, speaking of which, I noticed they've decreased my interest rate on my savings account……
