Doom PS4/XB1 $27 (Was $69) @ Target

1280

Developed by ID Software, the studio that pioneered the first-person shooter genre and created multiplayer Deathmatch, DOOM returns as a brutally fun and challenging modern-day shooter experience. Relentless demons, impossibly destructive guns and fast, fluid movement provide the foundation for intense, first-person combat - whether you’re obliterating demon hordes through the depths of Hell in the single-player campaign, or competing against your friends in numerous multiplayer modes. Expand your gameplay experience using DOOM SnapMap game editor to easily create, play and share your content with the world.

You’ve come here for a reason. The Union Aerospace Corporation’s massive research facility on Mars is overwhelmed by fierce and powerful demons and only one person stands between their world and ours. As the lone DOOM Marine, you’ve been activated to do one thing - kill them all.

A Relentless Campaign: There is no taking cover or stopping to regenerate health as you beat back Hell’s raging demon hordes. Combine your arsenal of futuristic and iconic guns, upgrades, movement and an advanced melee system to knock-down, slash, stomp, crush and blow apart demons in creative and violent ways.
Return of ID Multiplayer: Dominate your opponents in DOOM’s signature, fast-paced arena-style combat. In both classic and all-new game modes, annihilate your enemies utilizing your personal blend of skill, powerful weapons, vertical movement and unique power-ups that allow you to play as a demon.
Endless Possibilities: DOOM SnapMap - a powerful, but easy-to-use game and level editor - allows for limitless gameplay experiences on every platform. Without any previous experience or special expertise, any player can quickly and easily snap together and visually customize maps, add pre-defined or completely custom gameplay and even edit game logic to create new modes.

      MSDOS 6.22 only I'm afraid

lol.. old school there. Definitely need the 386dx rather than the 386sx without the maths co-processor.

      • 386dx 66mhz on win3.1 was my first

          What.. no.. what about xtreegold..lol

Luxury! When Doom came out I was still stuck with a 4-colour CGA monitor and a Turbo button that set the CPU from 8mhz to a blistering 10mhz…

        • +1

I know right..lol. I remember getting it on shareware initially at my local flea market..and being blown away by the graphics.

        • +1

My first foray into PC was a Nimrod 'XT Turbo' IT had awesome graphics as long as you were happy with four shades of orange. No HDD, everything including the OS required 5.25" floppies. The only two game titles I remember were called 'the ancient art of war' and XXXX

At least it had 640k of Ram. My Vic20 before that came with only 3k.

        • Something to let you know, perhaps 23 years too late…

…the Turbo button slows your computer down. It does not speed it up.

    • Minimum system requirements 486 win 95

      • Fair enough! :)

    Great game loved the campaign.

  • I am even beyond noob when it comes to video games, so can one play this game on a PC? I am talking about a regular, i7 PC and not a gaming PC.

PS: Nvm. Just realized it says PS4 in the title.

    • +1

I don't see why not, I have a good (not great but capable) gaming PC and this runs flawlessly with very setting maxed out. If you're willing to turn the graphics down you'd probably get pretty solid performance from even a weaker PC.

It's a great game on PC but I'd honestly never recommend it on PS4 at any price, playing a game this fast with analog sticks is more frustrating than fun.

      • I see. That clarifies a lot. I was never into gaming, though I came too close to buying consoles from deals posted here in the past. I tend to lose interest in stuff right after I buy them, so I didn't see the point of spending hundreds of $$ on something I will probably not use.

I might buy this, just to see how it works on my computer, though I would have liked those car race games. Played two of them few times at my mate's place and liked those better. Thanks for the info.

        • +1

Plenty of racing games, tend to be less demanding graphically.

My preferred store or gaming bargains is: http://www.allkeyshop.com/blog/

Gaming is more dependent on your GPU than CPU, but uses both. If you don't have a dedicated GPU, expect FPS titles to run poorly.

If you wanted to spend ~$300, the new 10 series nVidea gpu's would give you a lot of graphics grunt, but may not make much sense if you just wanted a cheap dabble.

    • +1

it doesnt matter as much what CPU you have on pc, what matters is what GPU you have since that's the thing that allows you to play games.

    • It is available for PC. i7 and a ballsy video card will run it. Keep an eye on Steam and Humble Games - it's regularly on sale for under $50. TBH though I got bored of it after 5 mins.

5 bucks for click and collect, wtf?

  • Big W has the PC version (with pre order bonus) for $29

    https://www.bigw.com.au/product/doom-with-preorder-offer/p/W…

    • says $42

      • It's showing for me as $29 though. Probably it's to do with your post code or something.

        • Changed to $29 didn't have sold by big w before

Hope that helps for ppl after the PC version.

  • Can we price match anywhere else? (ebgames?/jb hifi?)
None left at Target CBD Mel

    • +2

I price matched no probs at JB

      • Bourke Street? How many left?

        • Bourke St, I just pricematched w/o any issues, be quick, I think they're down to the last few copies

    • Bought a DS game for my nephew the other day that was reduced to clear at a Target, local EB offered to price match it which cut off roughly half their cost.

      Worth a shot!

  • cant checkout, you guys killed it again?

  • Dont buy them all. Im waiting for tomorrow and getting this and the new COD to get an additional $20 off with code xmas20

    • Excludes Toys, Entertainment, Christmas, Clearance & Electrical.

  • Thankssss!!!!!!

  • Amazing game. It caught me by total surprise

    • +1

reminds me i need to pick up that wolfenstein game from a few years back..probably already bought it on steam…hmmm backlog.

  • Can confirm, I just came home from eb games and they price matched. The guy was really helpful and had to call his store manager for permission first.

Sorry I don't want to say which eb as it seemed like the guy went out of his way to make it happen.

    Good luck

    • Such unnecessary drama @ EB having to call managers to reduce prices. JUST BE COMPETITIVE DAMNIT EB!

  • EB has the standard and the UAC collection for $36.
Not sure if the UAC multiplayer bonuses are worth the extra $9, anyone wanna chime in?

  • Just price matched this at eb. Got home and it needs a 22gb update! lol I'm beginning to think there was nothing on the disc

  • Not sure if anyone cares or not, but if you want a PC copy EB-games seems to have both the regular version and the UAC copy for $28 each.

    • So, the UAC version is all of what the Base gives, but with extra DLC? If so, I assume it's a no-brainer to get the UAC version?

Do either of these versions have the Demon Multiplayer Pack mentioned in the BigW version (https://www.bigw.com.au/product/doom-with-preorder-offer/p/W…)?

      • Actually from what I can tell, the UAC version just has the Fabric Patches, a handbook and a Poster. Not sure ab out any DLC.

  • No stock at Target Macquarie Park; in fact their PS4 section is tiny now. But had no probs pricematching at Big W.

  • Plenty of stock at Target Unley SA

  • The UAC pack mentions "Preorder and receive a bonus Demon Multiplayer Pack!" - anyone know anything about this, and if it's still included if I buy it off the shelf?
