[Need Advice] Lost Both of My Home Door Lock Keys

Hi
I lost both of my home door lock keys.
So I called up my agent, but didn't tell him that I've lost both of them and he said that they are standard keys and I can re-cut at any cutting place.
How do I proceed with this , I've no clue what kind of lock it is and how can I re-cut those keys(I know I can do that at Bunnings etc.)

  • Usually your agent or landlord will have a copy.
Otherwise call out a locksmith to replace the barrel - was roughly $270 when we had this done

  • You can't re-cut the keys without having something for them to copy. You'll need to get the duplicate from the agent.

    • Locksmith can trace the key from the lock. but you will have to remove the lock first to run a tracer on it.

      • ..and will need a key so you can remove lock.

        • most locks will be easily removable from inside. if you are locked out of the house and done have key you do not have much options.

  • There are a few options depending of what kind of lock you have: buy a new cylinder from Bunnings, buy a whole new lock from Bunnings, get a locksmith to replace just the barrel of your existing lock or grab the keys from the agent and get copies cut. Bunnings certainly cut keys but we must have a key to duplicate.

tell him you lost both of them and he can give you a back up key to copy

    • They will probably charge you $10-20 as they will have to make a copy for you.

They shouldn't and won't give you the only key they have.

  • You need to look up those guys PickPals, they often post deals here ;)

  • Some real estate agents provide you with a photocopy of keys. If you have the photocopy a good locksmith can actually cut you a new one just from the photo.
