  • Would you spend $270 for a vacuum cleaner which you have no idea if it is good or not? …

    • power of advertising :P

I watched a tech show on the Dyson one, so it's kind of stuck with me.

I figure, Samsung should be able to adapt their own working version, without infringing on the patent (or just paying Dyson so they can make their own)

Though looking at Globalsoul's vs iamcoke's comments, I'm thinking I need to do more research.

I have the SC9190 which is an older model. It is a great vacuum cleaner. Quiet, sturdy, ergonomical, good quality handle and brush, and sucks more dirt than the german made ducted vacuum.

I guess, if you do not want to get a Dyson, then this is a great alternative.

I got mine for 275 when the RRP was 399. This one has a RRP of 599, so I think its a great deal.

You can't trust COTD RRP, its more like marked up RRP. $599 can get you a very good dyson vacuum

I owned the Samsung SC9580 (a model one level higher than SC9180) and it was a disaster! It worked well for a week or so but then the brush became dislodged and stoped working. The service was slow to respond and not very helpful and at the end I just gave up. I bought a new model of Dyson and never looked back. It works just great, is very sturdy and reliable! They are quite cheap at the moment, so if consider buying the Samsung I would suggest to spend some $50 more and get something more decent. Hope that helps.

    • I too have had the Samsung vacuum cleaner experience!! Apart from being a piece of junk the motor burnt out after 13 months. It had only been used about 6 times.
Globalsoul is right, go and buy something decent, it is the best bargain as it will last and work properly.
Sanyos are good mostly because they use strong motors.

Great advice Globalsoul. Also, you can not trust COTD. I bought a pair of shoes, 20 days later when I contact them, they said they don't have any in stock. When I bought the Alpine, they advertised "Made for Iphone and Ipod". Then when I had it, it does not work with Iphone 3G/3GS or Ipod 2nd GEN forward. DO NOT BUY FROM COTD!!!! They have a very good marketing / advertising department !!!

    • Yes! you can't trust COTD, just like you can't trust any online store. But they do sell things cheap and you can trust the bands and yourself.
So i only bought well known band name products from them and do some researches b4, learn it form the hard way >.<
Therefore, i will not suggest to buy this Samsung vacuum cleaner, i even don't they make vacuum cleaner. But if it is Dyson, i will buy two. i love my Dyson which is only the most basic model.

      Wait, what? :P

They advertised a pair of shoes … as being made for Iphone or Ipod???

Are you sure they didn't work with the IPod? It's more like a skin, you see :P joke

  • Dyson is a ripoff. Less suction than vacuums costing half the price. Consumer Reports did a study on vacuums and Dyson ranked very low.

However Dyson has a fantastic marketing department. People become religious converts to Dysonism, telling everybody how their lives have been magically transformed since buying a Dyson. I think it's a case of post-hoc purchase justification.

    • It's the same case with Apple and their products. ripoff, but people still buy it for the brand image.

    • Hmmm at the time when it came out, I think it was the only bagless vacuum cleaner. I believe the technology seemed sound, that the vacuum cleaner does not tend to lose suction the way that bag ones do. (Bag ones are vacuum pressure behind one side of the bag -> bag fills up on that side first -> as debris accumulates it blocks the area where the vacuum pressure comes from -> less pressure at the working end of the vacuum cleaner)

But I've still only seen the Dyson bagless vs bag vacuum review.

I haven't seen anything more recent like Dyson bagless vs other bagless vacuum cleaners.

  • I too considered the Dyson, as at the time, a similar model was on sale for 375. But there were several things I didn't like about it:
    1. the plastic on the dyson body looked cheap
    2. the shape of the body looked awkward, unless if you are an alien yourself
    3. accessories are VERY expensive
    4. noisy!

I am enjoying my Samsung vacuum, but cannot comment on their service as I have not had to use it.

  • From Samsung

    Max.Consumption Power (W) 2,000
    Suction Power (W) 360

I have no idea how that compares to say a Dyson but there is a loss of 1,640w in heat and noise
