        Her..?????

        • +5

Sorry, what? The GearBest store rep on OzBargain is a female. Is there something wrong with that?

        • @Shaw: Nah. Nothing wrong. I thought it was Him. Me bad

        • +1

          @AJAJAJ:

No worries, you might be confusing the official store rep with monty.melb.

      • Thanks mate ill try contact her. The online chat keeps repeating that no coupon can be used as the item is on sale that is why i was charged full price… even though it was quoted $11..

        • +1

I suggest going on the Live chat again and hopefully this time you get connected to another customer rep… You don't need to provide too many details.. Just provide order number and say you want it cancelled because you were trying to apply a promo code that did not work.

I just cancelled my order, took me 2 mins in chatting and I received my PayPal refund. No questions asked.

        • @batrarobin:
Well…I asked for a refund but the customer rep changed the status of my order to "packed"…so I've got a new problem.

  • +1

don't like the 'game', hate it

  • +6

They need to shut this thing. This is a scam.

  • The race scheduled at 10pm for the Mr Bean Teddy …
    http://www.gearbest.com/action-toys/pp_174801.html

… involves counterfeit goods, and Store Rep OP fails to disclose that to fellow OzBargain members.

    • Sorry, that should be tomorrow's 10am race.

  • Neg for the check out process.

  • I like that going by the posts, some people have been getting multiples of things with the code. And then the rest of us are getting charged at full price after the fact.
I appreciate the intent of Gearbest, but I don't think this has quite gone according to plan…

    • +1

Who would have thought this might happen ……. after 8 pages of complaints and warnings

  • +1

So they'll just refund but have everyone's details now…

    • Plus interest in cash held and any unsuccessful refunds.

      • +2

The payment processing fees would far, far, outweigh any potential short term interest gains from the money held, don't worry about that.

      • +1

I worked in e-Commerce industry, trust me it's a pain to cancel orders and process refunds even if you have an elegant platform. Think about all the man hours spent in cancelling the orders and answering customer queries.

  • I just don't know what to say about this - all I can think of is what Clint Eastwood said in Heartbreak Ridge.

  • +3

Well you obviously can't say the OzB community didn't try to forewarn about this and try to get this 'deal' removed. The horse has now bolted as they say.

    • Thats why i went for"" horses for courses""änd didnt try any deal

  • +7

Muahahahah….it just can't be me alone here, how many just sat down with some popcorn to watch the entertainment unfold?

    • +1

      You have company for sure…:)

    • +2

You could at least share that popcorn dreamscene……oh you only have 30 bits and there's HOW MANY watching? Wow!

    • +1

Please accept me in this gang.

  • +5

We Gearbest are very proud to have chance to be a part of that and working hard to win trust with this community.

    Well that worked well.

  • +2

Applied code at exactly 4pm and came up as not valid, applied again immediately and came up as sold out. How do you explain that?

    • +2

Your clock was running .00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 seconds slow

      • Why would it show invalid at all and that exactly at 4pm and then sold out.

    • +3

      'cos you're not a bot. 😊

      • Lol may be, any deals on bots?

  • +2

The strong initial positive vote followed now by the increasingly strong negative vote is reminiscent of the American elections

    • Just like the US election , many just cant get over losing….. 50 units when the avearge click thru on many deals is in the high hundreds.

Most were always going to miss out

  • … And now they are removing positions from the list. That will surely make OzBargainers less frustrated.

  • +1

Yeah this was a giant waste of time…

  • -4

I don't get why everyone still complaining so much. I can accept why people are upset during the first round of deals, but by the second round everyone should know that if you try to use the coupon you run the risk of being overcharged during checkout (and the inconvenience of getting a refund). Clearly, that is the risk you accept to take in order for the chance to get the discounted products…

    • +7

Dafuq??? In what bizarre alternate reality do you reckon what you've just described is acceptable business practice???

Second thoughts, no need to answer, I have to get back to Earth before the Stargate closes…the chevrons are locking… ;)

      • -1

I'm not commenting on whether it is acceptable business practice or not (but I do acknowledge that it is kinda dodgy that those who choose to use the coupon and are entering into a contract to buy at the displayed price are getting overcharged).

I'm just pointing out that people are still complaining that they got scammed etc… when it is clear that you take such a risk when u press the purchase button.

  • +2

Waste of time.. I have tried 2x times both times I was unlucky..
Not a bargain… it's a bargain for gearbest as accessing their website many times.. Well it's a shameful for ozbargain to keep these deals still alive with low quantities.

  • I didnt win any deal here, Atleast India won the match against England…:)..Something to cheer and no hassle of refund or over charged….

  • +1

got scammed, Came up as $10 in paypal but ended up costing more. emailed support with no response so far.

  • +3

Hi mods, IMHO, this is the only deal worth looking at today, so kudos for this deal. I know there is a lot of disappointed people who are too slow at getting the under 10 quantity items. This is so typical ozbargain, where people complain about the lack of quantity and then try their luck anyway, then complain about how they didn't get one. I didn't get any of the low quantity items, but I don't mind keep trying my luck.

Question: are the low quantity items pulled permanently? I am more than happy if they get listed as a "competition" or whatever as people has suggested and keep trying my luck over the next 2 days.

    Thanks.

    • +1

yeah that's being a complete hypocrite in my books lol, looks like there's a lot of 'em around!

    • Question: are the low quantity items pulled permanently? I am more than happy if they get listed as a "competition" or whatever as people has suggested and keep trying my luck over the next 2 days.

Still deciding how to handle them. The quantity was never an issue for us, as evidenced in the early pages where we were defending the posting guidelines. The payment issues are, however, a problem. I am currently trying to contact the store rep (Who I guess is snowed in under a mountain of emails and PMs) to find a resolution going forward. Whether that be a competition of some sort, I'm not sure, and is up to them. At this stage, no further items will be being removed.

      • +2

I think this payment problem stems from people trying to checkout as guest. I have an account with Gearbest, and I did encounter the price discrepancy problem. But I followed the mod instructions in bold under the deal. I made 3 orders today, but didn't pay for them immediately until I checked the order price as instructed. I managed to get a TV box this way, the other 2 orders, I wasn't so lucky. The 2 orders says it will automatically be cancelled if I didn't pay for them in 24 hours, so that's good, I didn't even need to get in touch with customer service to cancel those 2 orders.

Perhaps some instructions regarding needing to be logged in as an account holder at the time might help.

        • I feel for the people who have paid the full price here, because it really shouldn't have happened. As I mentioned above, I do not believe it is malicious, it simply appears to be the result of an out dated system that isn't designed to handle instant purchase spikes like that.

I don't know if I could make the instructions I wrote in the OP any clearer, most people will not read them anyway. Obviously by reading them you saved yourself a lot of hassle, and that's sweet. Would be great if everyone had, but it's easy to get caught up in the moment of saving large percentages.

Having discussed the payment issues with the rep, I am not satisfied there will be adequate protection for users put in place for OzB10, especially when it comes to the larger amounts They are seemingly taking this seriously and planning on implementing a proper coupon deduction and timeout system in the future. Have suggested some sort of competition for the remaining $10 items, to prevent reoccurrence of earlier today, and to give everyone a chance to grab one.

        • +2

          @Shaw:

Having discussed the payment issues with the rep, I am not satisfied there will be adequate protection for users put in place for OzB10, especially when it comes to the larger amounts

Then, with respect, how the heck is this allowed on OzB?

        • Yea, I have an account with them also and while I now have 2 full price phone orders, no money was ever taken from my paypal account so I just cancelled them. I must admit I did panic after I got an email from them congratulating me on my new $300 phone before I realised no money was taken lol.

        • @Martijn:

For one these only came to light this afternoon. None of the initial discussion related to this.

GearBest have been advised that if they fail to refund a single over charged order, then their ban is extremely likely to be reinstated, pending a decision from the OzBargain mod team.

I just wonder how will you check that GB has refunded every instance?

        • @Martijn:

You may end up getting charged the full amount.

Isn't really concrete though. Also, I never mentioned anything about being charged the wrong amount, just how to confirm the actual amount you are being charged.

I just wonder how will you check that GB has refunded every instance?

We will hear about it, don't you worry.

        • @Shaw:

I am sorry… but you saying that you're not sure there's adequate protection for the community you moderate, but then you continue to defend the merchant. It's just not adding up.

This isn't my personal crusade against GB, it's me wondering where the protection for your community is.

And this saga has seriously dented my faith in the OzB moderation team. Which is a shame, cause it's not the birthday present i was hoping to take away from this.

        • @Martijn:

I'm defending the systems that are in place here, and the decisions we have made.

We are not here to tell people what decisions to make or how to protect themselves shopping online, if someone wants to take part in this or any promotion or deal, that is up to the them. We are here to remove deals not meeting the community criteria or that are fraudulent. In this case, I am not convinced that that is the motive behind the deals offered. We can once again agree to disagree, and that is fine. As long as users get some sweet bargains and no one is left out of pocket, what is the issue here? If people weren't being refunded, this would've been removed long ago, and the store banned.

      • Shaw, can I suggest you tick the mod box a bit more, otherwise it's easy for others not to realise :)

        • How's that? Don't really have to on Cheapies, but I'll try to remember haha

  • +6

Some of you guys need to mellow out!!! It's a fun game, where you're competing against the entire country for a handful of gear. Of course its not going to last long!

    • +3

Yep. Totally agree. Either you are lucky or not. No need to channel your inner anger here that you missed out.

    • +2

Some may see it as fun, for others, it's wasted time and stress having to reverse transactions that don't go through as advertised.

      • +1

so stop trying and wasting time may be? wouldn't that be the easiest choice?

  • Beaten in less than 30 seconds after 4pm.

Wasting people's time is a crime.

    • -1

      @eco2,
      Same here. 8:00:15pm beaten

I want my vote changed to -ve.

      • +3

Go to the top of the deal, click on votes and you can revoke your positve vote.

        • Thanks, I did it but it wouldn't let me neg it because my vote has been revoked on this deal.

    • It's actually not a crime.. just sayin'

  • Is it just me or did a whole bunch of offers vanish from the list?

  • +2

While I believe Shaw is acting in good faith for OzBargain members, these concerns were raised before any sales took place, considering the history GB have on here I believe a permanent ban on GB is more than appropriate.

Protecting your userbase should be the number 1 priority of OzBargain because without the user OzBargain doesn't exist and this "deal" has left a very bad taste in the mouth of many by a very dodgy retailer and puts OzBargain in a bad light by continuing to support the retailer.

    • The main concerns were stock levels it seemed, and the mod team decided that the stock met the minimum requirements, and that decision wasn't going to change. If we'd have known that the payment issues were going to happen, then the deal may have been removed. As it is, there will be no ban being handed to GearBest unless they fail to refund all of the overpaid amounts fully.

We made a judgement call to allow them to be unbanned, and we are going to stick by that. They have stated they are making improvements and providing better service, etc. and we aren't in a position to question that at this stage. From what I am aware of, the refunds are in the process of being cleared up and we all have a single point of contact if they are not. I have been informed that they are going to make changes to their website after reviewing what happened during this sale, and I expect that they will follow through with this, as they have with other performance discussions we have had with them in the past.

I'll state again, I do not believe there was any malicious intent in the offering of this deal by GearBest. There does seem to be a clear disconnect, however, between their desires and their capabilities. While they have had issues delivering items in the past, they may be past that and onto the next antique system that needs to be overhauled, mainly their website and checkout system. This is how progress works, and sometimes it's only evident when things go wrong.

  • +1

I've been happy with quantities provided and have also been having a blast trying to beat the clock. I'm also logged in to the Gearbest site when attempting purchases. As per posted instructions (thanks Shaw) I have paused and not gone further when the coupon deductions have come off. It has been very evident the prices have changed in my case at the Paypal stage.

@geek001 you don't need to wait the 24 hours for the orders to drop off naturally you can go into your orders tab and cancel them immediately.

I hope this deal continues in its current form as I haven't had this much fun bargain hunting in ages. Thanks Gearbest and a Happy OzBargain10 to everyone.

    • +2

I agree. It's been great. Part of the fun of bargain hunting(for me anyway) is getting a deal that seems unattainable. The drawback of that is that sometimes you will miss out. The orders that went through at higher prices are obviously a bad outcome but i don't think that this was intended.

      • yeah that gives you bragging rights :D

  • -1

First post, first neg - checkout issues and insufficient quantities (now resolved to some extent).

  • Having considered the options available and weighed that against the benefit to the community, I've decided to reinstate the original coupons in the same format.

There are a few conditions to this however.

    1) Please follow these instructions closely:

For anyone purchasing any of the below items, you do not have to complete checkout to get the item at the coupon price. If you add the item to your cart, apply the coupon code, and then follow the rest of the checkout process, you can pause at the point of payment (Paypal?). Confirm the Paypal amount or check your email or GearBest account after this to confirm whether you received the item at the $10 price.

    2) If GearBest fail to refund any overcharged amount, they are putting their necks on the block to be rebanned with no chance of reconsideration.

    3) I am confident this deal was posted in good faith and not an attempt to harvest a small amount of email or customer details. This post is not a scam, rather just an extremely poorly developed checkout system.

Hopefully this is a sensible balance, and someone can grab some sweet deals!

    • good call mate

    • -1

It is unfortunate that you are putting your relationship with GearBest ahead of your users.

      • Relationship with GearBest is no different than with any other merchant. They have given us their word that they have remedied the problems that caused them to get banned last time, and we have seen evidence of that. If they are prepared to take ownership of the payment issues and swiftly issue refunds for their errors, then that is fine, and shows that they are obviously not here to scam some quick cash.

I have provided a method around paying upfront, while retaining the opportunity to receive the discounted items. It is up to an individual if they wish to use that.

  • +1

I don't trust, gearbest. A few months ago ,I ordered a remix mini (they we're the cheapest) listing says they have 50 pieces. 12 days and my item still wasn't shipped out. Contacted support, they told me there was no in stock. Why even lie? I decided just to pay full price from the official store and received it in a few days.

  • +2

Item was $13.00 at cart, $311 at PayPal. Very swiftly pressed Cancel.

    • Yeah, its very clear that the items are just being bought up by bots and there is probably a lot of people from other countries grabbing the bargains.
(Not that I have an issue with the people from other countries, just unfortunate for me that theres more competition :P)

    • +1

      Same.

  • did anyones site freeze as soon as the order price got changed?

  • microsd instasold out -_-

  • -1

Woohoo. got a microSD card :D. Managed to click through without paying yet (as per mod instructions to check)
This time I literally jumped out of bed at 7:59pm, totally forgetting there was a sale

So far 2/3 - the one I didn't get was the phablet

  • thanks got the 64gb sdcard for $13.37 :)

    • i got mine for $15 for some reason

  • +1

The price jumped on the SD card as I was paying. I paid full price and want a refund. How do I go about this?

  • +2

So i'm checking out for $10US for the SD card then charged $30AU.

I want a refund for this BS.

    Order number: WW1611210302025781.

What a joke. Do it before I make a PayPal claim…

  • I got one of the cards as well, even somehow had time to try for the phone, fail, then go back for the card.

    • I did the same this time, I hoped there'd be less people going for the phone. Oh well, got earphones and microSD so far.
