Current temperatures and 7-day forecasts are well out of alignment with the BOM.

If it's not BOM data it's a no-go for me. Thanks for checking.

      • It's from some European agency…

I often wonder why these app devs - including Apple and possibly Google (unsure) - don't source their data from local weather bureaus. Yes, I've bothered to write in.

I'm guessing if it's not corporate agreements (e.g. Accuweather agrees to supply your weather data for the globe for a good price), it's laziness, ie, one data source for simplicity, at the expense of accuracy.

    Sigh.

    • I think that, but then again would you even notice the difference anyway between the two data sources (in terms of temperature)?

      • Once when travelling Apple weather once told me that where I was would be sunny and nice. Official weather told me miserable and rainy. I wish I had checked the official weather before leaving without an umbrella…

If they refuse to use BoM data, they may not be using the same satellites or software. Their predictions could be based on 'most likely' patterns and they can't predict serious weather events.
There's a reason the BoM is Australia's most popular government website, it is the only authoritative weather source.

The BoM app (and even the website) are excellent, although notably they don't offer a widget or a badge.

Until recently I just had the m.BoM website pinned to my homescreen.

        • I get that, and I use BOM for my weather as well, but could you even tell the difference between 28 degrees and 25 degrees anyway? That's the point I'm getting at.

    • The reason is simple. BOM provides API's at a cost. Somewhere around $3200 for a yearly licence of realtime data. Can not sustain such costs plus development cost if you can not sell enough copies. There is public licence option is available but that can not be used to sell app.

  • BOM is the way to go

  • back to $2.99. Expired?
