Bargin Bought Online through eBay, "Stuck at Customs"

Hi, I imported a few NVRs at bargain prices on eBay
This was last month the tracking number I have says

There has been no update since, the seller can't help me and I don't think Australia post can either, any idea how I can work out where the hell my package is? Here's the tracking number EA128855665CN

  • Could try contacting AusPost?
Their tracking is woeful though. It's probably been delivered!

I have two parcels that have been delivered, still showing as in-transit.

If the value of the parcel is worth more than $AU1,000, you have to pay custom duties (tax) on it. The seller would have had to declare the value and that is why it is held at customs.

Australia Post will send you a letter and you have to fill in the declaration form with tarif code and send it to them.
Once they get your declaration, they will send you an email with the notice and amount to be paid.
They will release your parcel to you after you pay the duty.

  • It's worth about $500
But if you wanted $10,000 worth of products from China couldn't you just do 10+ shipments and avoid the tax?

    • theoretically yes, the cost is also inclusive of shipping though per package. Ive heard stories of people trying to do this and then being caught out with gst because the total of the items was over 1k, but idk how they would do that in reality

If you start getting regular parcels, Customs will keep track and then you will pay on all of them.

  • NVRs at bargain prices on eBay

    What are those?

  • Sitting for 15 days…Call AusPost they'll sort you out. Your package is Melbourne Victoria in a facility.

    • Thx I'll give em a bell

  • You can call Australia post and they should have a better tracking then this as it is a EMS, if it did not arrived then open a item not received claim.

  • Note it isn't at all odd for a parcel to sit clearing customs for 10 days if it is sent normal airmail.
You will often receive the parcel before another tracking update too.
I would see if it arrives today before chasing it.

  • Happened to me a few weeks ago, I ordered some batteries online and when they hadn't arrived after 6 weeks I figured something wasn't right.

The item could be tracked as far as having been received by border control, but after that, nothing. Ended up being refunded the full amount by the seller.

I checked the 17track link posted by NotYouorFavPineapple, infortunately no good news there for me.

  • Spoke to Australia post
The address has been lost in transport so I have to contract the seller to contract china post to fix it
    Thanks for your help

  • I've had this happen before. It was stuck at customs for ages then eventually I contacted Amazon US and they told me AusPOst reported it as "lost in transit - aka stolen". I presume in my case it was an inside job as I doubt it's very easy to steal packages from a processing centre from a non-employee.

Thankfulyl Amazon reshipped my item for free and express via DHL so it wouldn't get stolen a second time.

    • maybe it was part of the many facilities around Melbourne that were raided a while ago.

      • No idea.

  • Damn hope that hasn't happened This was shipped via EMS
