660

Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Figured this was a good price so I thought I'd share it.

All 73 Epsiodes of Battlestar Galatica on blu ray Region Free for $35.50 AUD delivered (Price comes down at checkout). Includes the mini series as well.

I haven't seen it yet but it holds a 8.7/10 on Imdb rated #83 for tv series so I figured it'd be worth a shot. That and Dwight Schrute likes it so it must be good.

Cheers guys.

Just finished watching this, having purchased it last time it was on sale, and have to say it was worth it. Good price!

    • +2

Maybe keep a lookout for when the complete Sesame St collection goes on sale?

  • For some reason Amazon UK doesn't deliver to Australian Parcelpoint locations, so don't try searching for one near you.

Good find, OP. Not nearly as cheap on Amazon US.

    • +1

Use Parcel Collect or Parcel Locker instead then you shouldn't go wrong.

Great find, great price. So Say We All!

      So say we all.

Probably the best space opera sci-fi series ever. The only recent show that rivals it is The Expanse, IMHO.

    • +1

Yeah The Expanse is off to a good start, still needs a season or two to find it's feet. Lets hope it makes it that far…

    • +3

      First few episodes are brilliant.

There are a few more great moments throughout.

But some episodes were particularly boring, and season 3 (or 4 maybe?) suffered quite a bit (writer's strike).

It was a bit too long and the ending was unsatisfying and didn't properly fulfil character arcs, etc.

So great, but not as good as Firefly (and much, much longer).

      • +7

I'm sure I will be negged to oblivion but I honestly believe Firefly is one of the most overrated shows I've seen.

        • +1

Let me show you negging. I believe this is one of the most overrated shows I have seen. I keep looking at the choices that everybody makes in this series and they always take the dumbest, never going to work choice all the time. I barely managed to get through it, the end made up a little for the entire series but not enough.

      • +1

Totally agree the ending was a massive let down but the rest of the series is so good it is still worth watching. IMO overall better than Firefly.

      • +2

Agree. The start was amazing; what a fantastic premise. But where does that drive go? They kinda don't know which direction to take it. IMO that's just bad writing— when you can kinda tell they're making it up as they go along, it means they've sort of lost their way. I'm sure the writer's strike was part of the problem. I also really don't like what they did with some of the characters, particularly Gaius. I really loved the show when I first watched, but when you realize how many loopholes are still there and how little it makes sense, I started to struggle with the rewatch and I started to find it kinda infuriating the second time through. Especially (SPOILER) teary Adama and the paste bucket. It was like jumping the shark for me. And there are many such moments. I've been watching Sci Fi my whole life (my Dad was into ST:TOS) and this is still one of my least fave shows; I think because it just could have been so amazing. I'm still not sure why people love it so hard, but each to their own.

Firefly on the other hand, had its own issues but the core of it, the writing, was pretty strong. I'm not a huge Firefly fan (it was kinda slow for me, I really liked the movie though) but good writing with a clever direction is really important to me. One of my fave Sci-Fi shows ever is Babylon 5. It may lack the polish and shock value that BSG has, and it may have some hammy acting and be cheesy, (it's so 90s) but Seasons 1-4 have a pretty amazing plot arc (which Star Trek DS9 blatantly ripped off, badly), so imo Babylon 5 is a much better show than BSG.

        • Long Live Bab 5 - so ahead of it's time and really intense plot, conspriacies and all. Fully support comments, I have DVD series, but if ever on Blu-ray, what a re-issue.

    • +2

I loved this show but it declined badly after the first couple of series. Would put Babylon 5 above it, Love the Expanse as well so far.

      • That's funny, I was saying a similar thing to you but way more verbose, lol. My brother told me to check out Expanse, and he keeps telling me to watch it every time I see him, so based on his and your comment, so I shall.

Didn't think I would like it at first, thought it would be like star trek which I didn't like but was hooked after the first movie length episode… Brilliant series, beings up a lot of interesting ideas. Highly recommended

Oh man, I really could use this. One of my favourite all time shows, especially the ending which was genius (I know it was panned..but srsly it was perfect IMHO). The prequel series Caprica is awesome also, real shame these intelligent shows inevitably get axed or panned as they are over the head of the average person..sigh

      -tips fedora-

  • One of the best shows of all time, whether you like Sci-Fi or not. Pretty great price too!

  • +1

First two seasons were great, then they just made it up with the last two as they went. Was terrible.

  • An absolute classic space opera. Thanks for posting this.

  • Another Christmas present sorted - Thanks OP!

  • *galactica

  • Fraking price and Fraking great show!

  • Probably pass on this after I bought The Incredible Hulk seasons 1-5 box set which just arrived from Amazon UK.

24 discs so will be a long time until I get through that one!

  • Galactica is riveting and quite addictive.

I remember glued to my seat trying to finish the series lol.

    Cheers!

  • Thanks for the post, placed my order :)

JB Hifi is around $91 for the same thing delivered, now what do I get with the money I "saved"? :)

    • +1

JB Hi-Fi has the Australian retail box set. Australian retail releases tend to be a rip in price compared to the equivalent UK box set release from the UK.

The people who make Outlander did Battlestar Galactia. I'm excited about that. I might give it a try.

    "I haven't seen it yet"

Wow, you're in for a real treat. It's something rather special. It reaches deeply into my psyche.

  • Mine was delivered yesterday by DHL courier in less than a week. Can't beat that.

    • +1

Mine isn't expected until the 14th lol. Ugh DHL. I have the most annoying DHL driver. He insists on always calling to make sure you're home or he won't bother delivering and I swear he's on drugs. Super in your face and talks fast. I dread DHL deliveries.
