Buy a Steam Controller or Steam Link ($89.95ea), Get a Free $20 Steam Gift Card at EB Games

101

For those who don't like Amazon's somewhat-exorbitant shipping fees, EB Games are now selling the Steam Controllers and Steam Links in store. If Steam credits are a regular occurrence, they effectively become $69.95 each - which is great for those who like to walk in and buy them without waiting.

  • $20 USD or AUD?

    • It'll probably be AUD, since these cards are proliferating at all kinds of stores.

    Christ, $89 EACH though…

  • Do EB's returns policy let you return hardware the same as they let you return games? I always wanted to try a Steam Controller but couldn't justify buying it from overseas and being stuck with it if I don't like it.

      I have a steam controller and can answer your questions. If I have to say something about it, is that it takes a lot of getting used to and for people with smaller hands, this is probably not the best controller for you. The ABXY buttons are small and hard to reach and you will be stretching you thumb to hit them.

      It is amazing for playing FPS games on the couch. Games that you would normally play on the KB/M can be played on the couch comfortably, but the games that are typically played on a game controller (like say, Shadow of mordor, Street Fighter or Rocket League) should best be played with a normal Microsoft Xbox controller, mainly because you will be wanting the larger, easier to press face buttons.

      • And be warned it works well Steam with PC, not so with Mac. Too many bugs on Mac for some reason.

      • thx for sharing your experience. How is this controller for playing MOBAs like dota 2.

        • controller for playing MOBAs like dota 2.

          Dota2 is too fast paced and requires precision. You would lose and get called a noob. In Diablo 3, you can control your character using analog stick movement as controllers are actually supported in the game. Dota OTOH has zero controller support.

          In Dota2, the only way you can move is to point and right click. So much of your character interaction is using the right touchpad. If you practiced enough though and used all the keybinds available to you, you might turn out good enough to play against more skilled people (but again you are at a serious disadvantage of not being able to react quick enough because everyone is using a mouse while you're using a touchpad)

    Cheaper price thanks to @Lyl here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/277666

  • Paid USD 60 for both with that AMAZON deal.

  • For those who don't like Amazon's somewhat-exorbitant shipping fees

    How is the Amazon shipping free exorbitant? Try posting something in Australia and tell us about exorbitant then. This price sucks compared to the Amazon price especially if you have no use for the steam credit. The USD $10 MasterCard credit pays your shipping on the Amazon deal anyway!

  • No deal.
    Price on controller is AUD $61.23 delivered @ Amazon
    Price on Steam Link is AUD $43.12 delivered @ Amazon
    AUD $97.34 delivered for both

    ::edit::
    These are Amazon's regular price too, not a special.
    Got 2 controllers delivered 6 months ago.
    Not sure what OP in on about re Amazons supposed exorbitant shipping.

    ::edit2::
    If you want exorbitant shipping, try Australia post.
    Bought flight sim rudder pedals from Amazon, AUD$30 shipping and here in a week, needed to return them AUD$80 shipping and 3 and a half months.
    Amazon was kind enough to re-imburse me in full.
