  • I like the pic on the $649 one :-P Oh and the prices seem quite good!

  • Anybody know what the model number is of the N450 netbook? I can't find it….

    • ive done a quick research i believe it is this model ASUS 1001P NETBOOK EeePC. the model number in the USA is MU17-BK. looks pretty decent. i would get it for the price as most stores are selling them around 329$ at MSY

  • How does the N450 compare to similar laptops? I need something small for uni…opinions?

    • Its still quite a new atom. it would be capable of the usual task for uni and such. depending on what your studying and your needs. whats good about it is its long life battery that would really suit uni needs. for the price you would be saving about $50

      • I had bought a 1001HA previously with Atom N270 and it's very slow compare to a normal laptop.
So I sold it to someone else. If you only want to use it to do single and simple task, this netbook is good
but don't expect it to run like a normal laptop.

      • It will be about on par with the 3.Ghz P4 (desktop).

  • ironically the specs page doesnt work on the cotd site for these laptops

    • I think maybe… 1001PX-BLK029X

or maybe not.. i think that's the 3-cell version

      • If the model cannot be confirmed, i wouldnt take the chance

      • I have the 6 cell PX, and indeed the specs here are the same, except in the photo of the right handside view, there appears to be two USB sockets. The 1001PX only has one on the left and one on the right.

I'm guessing this is a PX, and the side view photo is from an earlier model.

For a sub $300 machine with a 6 cell battery and an N450, this is great value.

    • you have to click the actual model before u can check its specs

  • what you guys reckon? good prices?

  • No bluetooth…. Bugger!

    • and no infrared..bugger! lol :)

  • Good deal for a 6-cell + N450, could not resist the temptation.

  • does this only come in black?

  • +1

This is a pretty good deal, I wonder what the catch is?

Hmm.. I guess I'll find out soon, I just ordered one ;)

And for those complaining about lack of bluetooth, just plug one of these in http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.11866 You'll forget it's there in 3 seconds

  • +1

    Matte display and chassis?

Nah. Sounds too good to be true.

    • Its got a carbon fibre look. looks good to me. especially for the price i think its worth it.

i would definitely buy one if i didnt have more laptops than i could use

      • After checking a bunch of pics and video reviews, it seems there are versions of the all-black 1001P with a very glossy bezel and others with a matte bezel. The COTD shows a matte one but who knows if it's depicting the exact model on offer.

  • I have the 1001HA, bought for $310 delivered early this year, same chassis. It's awesome. I assume this is an upgraded version, and cheaper. I say go for it

  • Exactly the sort of netbook I'm after. Cheers!

  • Just ordered one, I know it says 7-10 days but what kind of delivery times do you guys normally experience from COTD?

    • Curious about this too. Also, are they strict on who signs the package?

    • A HP laptop I ordered from them recently took two calendar weeks from order date to delivery, consistent with the 7-10 business day estimate. COTD isn't for people in a hurry.

  • I accidentally paid through credit card— and just read that the cashback is only through paypal… could i get a refund and repay? =S

    • ouch. pwned. I almost made that mistake too.

  • +1

i reckon ive spent more than $270 worth of my time trying to find a free computer while at uni. this is a simple and light! notebook.

    • hear hear
Plus computers there usually have program restrictions and such

  • ARGHHHH…what is the model number?

    • Hehe, yeah… love how they have the model number on the more expensive 12.1" one, but not here.

  • ive done my research and about to look at buying this too.
if im not mistaken its the asus 1001PX

almost identical to the 1001P and without windows 7 (cheaper by $20) in the US as it is XP, and i think instead of 3 usb it has 2, and its got a carbon fibre texture top and a matte screen and bezel.. (better than glossy im my opinion)

a good deal still! real battery life is rated arnd 9hrs, and it's almost identical to the 1001P so if you are looking for reviews, look up that one.

if its the 1001px, not a lot of reviews as its a ravamped 1001p ..and the px was only released in april/may ..

gonan sell my dell mini osx 9 and swap it for this!

    • I would say colblair was on the right track thinking 1001PX too. The "1001P" results on StaticIce show Australian stock is mainly 1001PX-BLK029X or 1001PX-BLK014X, which appear to be the same except the former has a 3 cell battery and the latter a 6 cell.

Also, the COTD image is titled "asus-1001px-1.jpg". So my money's on 1001PX-BLK014X.

  • I thought all eeepc's came with 2yr global warranty's…?

    My 1005HA did. Strange.

    • Other Asus laptops come with a 2 year warranty, but most (and I'm fairly sure all) Eee PCs only come with a 1 year warranty standard. I was told the wrong thing when I bought my 1000H (which I knew was wrong), so I'd double check because you could have been given bad information by the salesperson.

  • maybe refurbed?

    • hope not lol

    • "Packaged in Asus brown box packaging, completely brand new and sealed."

      • so whats the damm model number?
        COTD rep should advise!

        • maybe the model number is 1005PE for 160G edition. you can check it online.

  • This would have been perfect for me if it had wireless N!

    • as long as it has wireless its all good lol

  • i would recommend acer 1830T or 1810t but 1830t seems not avaliable in australia now
    Acer 1830T
    11.6-Inch 1366 x 768 display (glossy / 720p HD)
Intel Core i5-520UM processor (1.06GHz, dual core)
    3x USB Ports, S/PDIF Audio
    HDMI output
    Intel HM55 graphics
    Gigabit Ethernet
    802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi
    Optional Bluetooth 2.1+EDR & 3G
    6-cell, 8 hour Battery

    • +1

That would cost at least $650~700 USD (= 800 AUD).
Way out of the price range of normal netbooks.

But the specifications sure are nice.

      • yep, it would be the best balance for the battery life and performance. isn't it?
1810T SU7300 processor edition is much better than asus 1201PN.

        • You're not going to get great battery life out of an i5, even with a chunky 6 cell. If you want to be carrying one all day you really should go for atom.

    • +1

I would strongly receommend not to buy an acer of any type

      • well, i strongly recommend the acer 1410 and 1810 models. i got a dual-core 1410 for $450 and it has been great, even if old acers were terrible. 1080p works great on it :)

        • its also about support & service acer are known as not very good comparatively , but then Lenovo has had some shockers recently

  • is the ram expandable to 2GB?

  • pffft @ xp

  • Good price I would have snap it up, however I already bought the HP Mini last week. Would prefer the ASUS version thouh.

  • I was waiting for this Catch to come up but i am still leaning towards this..

    www.mln.com.au/product/?itemID=830&typeID=special

    What does everyone think??

    • Bad notebook, overheats and is noisy. If you like those things then buy it!

    • You are a lot better off getting the ASUS. I was looking at the lenovo as well, but the ASUS is a much better deal.

    • n270 obsolete technology in the lenovo there…

  • this laptop not dual i think, will that make this laptop slow?

  • Some dude price matched with office works on whirlpool. $284 take it home today.

    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1171893&p…

Wish I'd read it before I ordered mine, would have got another 5% off with staff discount.

    • He bought the 1001p, not the 1001px then. Difference is the matte finish and carbon fibre.

      • so COTD is selling the 1001px?
actually they don't mention the model - how sly COTD can be sometimes…

        • The picture on COTD appears to have that carbon fibre effect that the 1001px took on. I honestly don't know which one would turn up in the mail! When it comes to COTD, it could be anything.

          • @dankenny: Actually that's not fair :P. It'll definitely be at least the 1001p or the 1001px, which means you got a good deal either way. I hope it's the px though!

    • same here doh

    • I spent most of the day calling all officeworks near my location and no one would price match coz of the cash back offer. the only one that nearly price matched was out of stock. i also tried JB Hi Fi and DSE and HN with no luck.

Even though i have to many laptops $280 was to good to miss and i still ended up buying one =)

  • I caved in and bought one of these, been holding out for a decent priced robust little netbook!

  • Can this thing play 1080p HD movies output through VGA?

    • No chance.

  • Does this have a sim card slot & 3g to use to use anywhere without a usb dongle modem connected?

    • Not for this price

  • SOLD OUT!!!

    • They have restocked, check!

  • I was just looking for a netbook for uni, this couldnt have come at a better time.

Awesome deal, haven't seen an eee pc this cheap in ages!

  • yep i just bought 1 they still have stock

  • Argh, just gave in. Hope I'm not disappointed when I get it.

  • If i buy today, would i be able to claim it on my taxes somehow, and if so what can i claim it under? Does it matter if it costs less $300? (I just file my taxes individually, not part of any business etc.)

    • say you bought it for work

  • Hi all, first time poster here,

I've just purchased this netbook but also notice that the paypal deal has an expire date of 12pm Wednesday 30th June, didnt this deal happen midday on Wednesday? it also says Thursday 30th June somewhere, quite confusing.

    Thanks all.

    • No, the deal commenced 12pm A.E.S.T. Tuesday 29 June.
In the ordinary course of events the Catch would go till Midday the following day, i.e. 12pm Wednesday 30 June (unless sold out prior).

…feature product goes live at precisely midday and is available for 24 hours and no more, unless sold out prior.
      http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/about_us.php

  • It's now truly rooly listed as Sold Out.

  • Great price, I probably would have caved in, if I hadn't picked up the HP one last week. Very nice specs, besides the XP, yeesh.

  • SOLD OUT.

  • any one got there netbook yet?

    • Got shipping confirmation email today

  • mine still says 'processing'.
when are we suppose to get the paypal cashback?

  • Posted today. will come most probably wednesday.

same how do we go abouts getting our cashback?

    • +1

Mine was delivered this morning, will post the model number when i get home :)

      • Has anyone else received their Netbook today? I have received their shipping confirmation email, hopefully, since I am close to the Melbourne CBD I will recieve mine tomorrow.

        • I am in Melbourne and mine got delivered this morning :)

          • +1

@hingwaah: Just received mine this morning too. I can confirm that it's the 1001PX model.

          • @hingwaah: Damn Hingwaah! I was looking foward to setting it up with Windows 7 and everything else if it arrived today. I certainly hope it arrives tomorrow morning.

            • @ck01: Typing on it right now!!! 1001PX :) Just in time for my holiday starting tomorrow

              • @hingwaah: Hey, can you tell me what type of RAM it uses…ie DDR2 or DD3 aswell as clockspeed (mhz)?

I want to upgrade the RAM straight away and put Windows 7 on it.

Still waiting for mine to come through.

                • @HONDA4LIFE: how will you upgrade to windows 7?. (Starter?).

It is ddr2 and max is 1gb as per many specs on net for 1001P(X)

              • @hingwaah: Does it have 2 or 3 USB ports? I seem to be reading conflicting reviews..

  • I provide the following link for general interest:
    http://www.netavatar.info/video/asus-eee-pc-1001px-ram-upgra…

    • That was the one vid which popped up when I searched for 1001PX on YouTube the day I ordered. Out of curiousity, how did you end up at that "netavatar" site?
