they do this every few months for as long as I can remember

    • +1

Not. I've had pay TV for like 15 years and they only do this sort of thing once a year, at best. And it's usually around winter time.

dont think it really deserves a neg…

    • +5

Not all are signed up to email and are aware of this.

        • You dont know if the channel is available with foxtel, its not highlighted or anything so this post moves my "omg dont both with this channel it will just take a sec to load and say subscibe as usual" to a "Woot free movie channels for 2 weeks!, lets go and check whats on"

This post notified me and ill be keen to checking these channels out! My Family recieved no notification

          +1

        • I guess 60+ people have already disagreed with you.

I think that most people would not flick through movie channels if they haven't paid for them. I only knew of the last time this was on thanks to Ozbargain, so returning the favour.

        • If you dont subscribe to the channel then you are not going to look at it daily to see if it is free so how exactly will people know?

        • I still don’t see the bargain nor the need for it to be posted here

And I still don't see the need for you to neg it either, but you did! ;)

          • @StewBalls: hmm Actually I can sort of see his point of view. I guess the question is is this a bargain or Information. There are tonnes of other sites and forums for you to go to and receive information or updates etc on foxtel. I guess what he might be saying is its not actually a bargain as such that you go and sign up somewhere or fill in a form or ask for something and get it for free. All it provides is information that this will be available at a certain time to people who are already with the company and for those 2 weeks its free. Thats a forum post, or a blog not a ozbargain bargain….

            • @lonewolf: Fair point, and you're right! PainToad's POV is certainly valid, it's just IMHO not neg worthy! I reckon it's ok to be neutral on some things, vote wise, whilst still being afforded the opportunity to comment! ;)

              • -5

@StewBalls: There's a real "O GOD YOU NEG'D" thing here. I voted negative, big deal, it's a post on a website, not his first born child. Get some perspective people.

        • PaidToad obviously doesn't have Foxtel so he doesn't know what he is talking about.

Not all Foxtel customers are emailed this. I get emails from them all the time & never was aware of this or other times this happened

      • +2

Same here - this is good info to know and I never received an email.

      • same, though i don't get any emails anyway. and nice timing for the deal, just as the world cup ends :)

    • I didn't get an email about this - thanks very much for the info!

    • Not everyone gets the email or if they do they may not read it.

    • im sorry but i dont get emails from foxtel, and dont want to.

    • why would you NEG when something that is free & not an advertisement?

zhenjie is not from/work for Foxtel, he is just trying to help here!

    • Is that really worth a neg PainToad?

  • Thanks for the heads up.
Guess this includes HD channels as well?

    • The last time i got free movies HD wasnt included.

  • +1

    Thanks for letting me know.

Time to clear some space up on the IQ2 ;)

  • Thanks for the heads-up. I didn't get any email notification about this.

  • good to know. i never get emails either.

  • Thanks!

  • Pity it doesn't cater for Austar, it seems.

    • Austar rarely do anything to entice/keep their customers. Foxtel throws a bunch of stuff at you if you threaten to quit, Austar says dont let the door hit you….

      • Bad personal experience with them, Wampus?

        • I had the same experience.

At the time I needed a STB with component/HDMI output. Austar's box only had s-video and composite, so I had to swap to Foxtel and their new (at the time) IQ2.

I rang up to cancel Austar, after subscribing for ~$1,200/yr for many years - ie a long time good customer, and they didn't offer me anything to stay.

          • @Chris McMahon: Yep basically this ^^

I've heard reports of Foxtel bending over backwards to keep you. Austar can't even organise decent equipment! (Moved from Foxtel area to Austar area and the difference is huge)

            • @Wampus: Totally agree with you about Austar. We are in a non-foxtel area after having foxtel for many many years. I cannot believe the lesser service we have to put up with, the inferior equipment and yet higher charges.

  • thanks for the heads up!

  • Do we have to have a current subscription? I have a working Foxtel receiver but I am not subscribed. When I turn on the receiver, I see an advertisement from Foxtel inviting me to subscribe.

Be extremely wary when you call after the two weeks to cancel the additional channels! Record the name of the person, their supervisor's name, the dates & exact times of the calls etc, everything you can get to identify the call, coz trust me, they'll try to stitch you up!

Foxtel are either wildly inept or equally devious - I suspect the latter! They'll make a "mistake" & keep charging you for additional stuff if you're not careful, then they'll promise to make it up with some ridiculously extravagant deal & charge you full price for that too, then deny it when you call them on it! "Oh no, that person couldn't authorise that, they don't have delegation for that kind of deal" is pretty common! Good thing is, the halfwits record all conversations (for training purposes???) so when you push them to check they will comply, but you've gotta be forceful!!!

Nothing against this deal, something for free's always a bargain; but I just wanted to warn you guys to be diligent, Foxtel are not straight shooters! However, as others have very rightly noted, they are aggressive in keeping customers; so if you've been with them a while & say you wanna leave, watch your package inclusions double & the price halve immediately! Just go to step 1 again though! ;)

    • You only need to call if you want to keep the extra channels not the other way around…
"you don’t want the fun to stop, call 1300 736 104"

      • Good point, my bad! ;)

  • Just swapped from Optus to Foxtel so this looks a good freebie. Will it automatically give me the channels or do I have to contact them? Thanks

    • You’ll get them automatically.

I wonder if we will get HD movie channels as well???

      • Dont forget to get the HD movie channels you will need to have the IQ2, but if you have that then possibly you might get them. Which would be cool althought knowing foxtel you probably wont. Bummer they dont provide any bonuses for people who get everything like me :(, they should be giving us a 2 week discount or something.

      • I dont think they offered the HD channels for free when this offer ran last time

  • -2

Do you think optus customers will get these free channels as well?

  • +1

I forgot to mention that this is also happening on Austar from 11th-26th July.

  • We didn't this when we were with Optus. They also don't offer IQ.

    • I had IQ when i was with optus a couple of years ago but i think i was one of the lucky ones, they stopped getting more IQs after a while.

  • I used to have austar a few years ago and it was great for the first few months but after you had watched most of the programs it seemed like 95% of the content after that were all repeats and very few new programs. Are things still the same today?

    • still the same…. but thanks to my worsening alzheimer's, I dont notice it as much anymore.

    • still the same…. but thanks to my worsening alzheimer’s, I dont notice it as much anymore.

  • so when are they turning these on ??

edit: seems to be working now i also got it on the HD channels im just subbed to family iq with a iq2 and HD.
