Harvey Norman vs JB Hi-Fi vs The Good Guys (for Electronics)

Considering buying a PS4 and was wondering which of the above stores you'd recommend buying from. Which has the easiest/hassle-free return policies, the best customer service and is the least likely to attempt to rip you off? They've all got price matching policies, so the price isn't a factor.

Thanks in advance!

    • Any particular reason why?

      • +2

JB's return policy and CS is leagues ahead of any other chain retailer in Australia.

TGG is meh, very dependent on stores despite a very helpful head office. I was told to fxxk myself once when I was trying to do a refund on a wrongly described item bought online as acknowledged by the head office, and after several arguments was rudely treated when processing the refund, including throwing the item around and the item I was exchanging for. Not very consistent with their own policy, was trying to do a price guarantee claim instore, despite pointing the T&Cs out, they (including the manager herself) still rudely tell me to go online, took me several phone calls to the head office, a visit to the store, a "conference" call at the store to sort it out, and I was still refunded the difference only instead of the 120% of the price difference, which I gave up at that point.

HN is out of the picture I guess as many here would agree.

        • Thanks! I guess I'll go with JB.

  • Didn't know TGG was still doing game consoles…

    • They don't (at least I don't think they do). My bad. Was thinking of Big W/Target.

  • I bought a Sony cube speaker from good guys for $76. They offered their concierge service for another $30 including a 3 year extended warranty. This service sends you various deals through email and a $20 good guys store credit every 3 months for 3 years which you can use for just about anything (maybe even Telstra starter packs). That's $180 of added sht from good guys for an extra $30 (on eligible products). I used my first one on rechargeable batteries, no problem at all. If I can't find anything else I need there, I will buy shit to sell on eBay and make my cube speaker pay for itself.
Point being, if good guys offers the concierge service on PS4, buy it there and pay the $30 for their concierge service - well worth it.

    • How is that $180? $20 x 12 = $240 - $30 = $210?

  • Which model are you after?

I needed another PS4 for one of my sons and ended up with the ps4 500gb slim from Big W.
I got them to price match J&B Hifi at $299 and then used my discounted egift card to actually pay $285.50.

  • "They've all got price matching policies, so the price isn't a factor."

This means that the following statement is also moot: "least likely to attempt to rip you off"

"best customer service" - you know what you're buying and at what price, so this is also moot.

"easiest/hassle-free return policies" - entirely dependent on staff member and/or manager. However, tl;dr: you're covered under Australian Consumer Laws, including Sony, so you really don't need to give a damn.

Which leaves nothing. My initial answer was just going to be "whichever is cheaper".

  • all are same.just go wit who ever is offering you cheaper. i never had any problem with any of those stores.

  • JB Hi Fi now owns The Good Guys and paid 870 million for it.
