The only real way to tell if these guys are any good is to see what they said 12-36mths ago.
As for Alan Kohler, he seems like a decent enough bloke, but he does what smart investors do, sells advice, it's the only quick, easy & certain way to make money. You make money no matter what's happening (especially in turbulent times). If you luck something right, you're a genious, if you don't, people seem to forget.
Even better for Mr Kohler, he gets a range of experts so someone is bound to get lucky & pick a winner or two.
But for a tax deductable $1, it's worth a read.
