Help with 27 Inch Gaming Monitor $250-350

Hi guys looking to buy a 27 inch monitor for light gaming such as Dota and CSgo.

Been doing some research which one will be bang for buck..

Viewsonic $249

Asus $275

Aoc $294

Benq $350

Atm I'm leaning towards the viewsonic as it's the cheapest and seems alright :)

Thanks

  • There's this if you can stretch your budget and want/can live with 21:9

  • what type of graphic card do you have
    AMD or Nvidia ?
you want to be sure your monitor supports it with Free-sync or G-sync.

    • I got an old radeon 6950 gpu

      • that card is too old to support FreeSync. You need the HD7000 series and newer.

Your 6950 actually falls behind in terms of performance to R7 270, so it's getting a bit long in the tooth now.

Time to upgrade? Make use of the 10% voucher lol

        • Dam, it's been awhile since I've look at computer equipments. Ya if I was playing the latest BF or such I would update system. It's fine atm playing csgo and I reckon any Fps on low/med still :)

Thanks for the heads up. I'll avoid freesync monitors for now.

        • @czz:

There's nothing wrong with getting Freesync-enabled LCD's for a little bit of future proofing.

Unlike Gsync, manufacturers don't charge an arm and a leg for Free Sync, while Gsync monitors would command a very high price premium.

The 6000 series GPU is also compatible with Freesync monitors, it just means you can't turn the feature on. You can still use good old Vsync, which will minimise screen tearing (but at the cost of increasing input delay 20~30% and locking the FPS to 60).

  • If you don't need FreeSync: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/231018630132?_trksid=p2055119.m14…

And you should also get the 10% off all of eBay as well with the other deal too (C10YAY).

So that makes it $233.10 delivered; mate of mine picked one up recently and was really pleased (especially moving up from 22"!)

    • Cool man, I might consider this thanks :)

  • I will suggest something a little different: Qnix QX2710

You can read all about korean monitors here
    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2404455

I'm currently using an X-STAR DP2414LED, it's a 144hz, 24 inch TN gaming panel with 1ms pixel response rate. It's pretty damn good.

I got it for $202 AUD after using a 20% coupon code, but it normally goes for $249 dollars.

    144hz is amazing :)

    • I've heard good things about those Korean imports in the last few years, however the discount/risk ratio no longer seems to be advantageous - the price gap is to small for the risk of faults and warranty returns overseas compared to the premium of an Australian seller.

Perhaps on the high end of the scale - 1440p, 32" $800+ for a retail Samsung screen at a reduced price - it might be worthwhile, but the OP is only after light gaming.

After all, peace if mind should also be weighed, alongside features and value, for any bargain we find!

      • that's true, however with certain coupons and discounts it's still worth considering.

It really depends on how badly you want those "exotic" features.

Like say, a panel that is PLS or IPS or MVA as opposed to bog standard Twisted Nematic

or if you want a panel that can overclock to 144hz so you can have reduced input lag and increase your counter-strike sniping performance. (and, 144hz looks so darn smooth, you will probably never go back to 60hz)

For the OP I think the Viewsonic is probably a half decent pick. The reviews on it don't seem bad, actually pretty good considering the low price.

      • Yeah I don't think I can do Tech equips without warranty like the LG Ultra wide monitor deal going on now.

With warranty here covering 3 years :) which is sweet.

  • viewsonic might be cheap but you pay for what you get.

    cheap crap yo!

  • Thx guys after much thought looks like I'll be getting the benq monitor :)

    • you should read the reviews first and decide for yourself. I kind just voted on a monitor without really googling or checking the specs.

  • Doesn't matter too much unless you're a professional gamer to be honest :P
