Sister Needs Mobile Wi-Fi + Wants Netflix

Hello all,

Need recommendations on what my sis should do… Moving into a rental house for 3 months, needs some internet and watches netflix.

What should she do/buy?

Cheers

    You sure internet isn't included?

    • Definitely isn't. She'll need mobile WiFi or something similar

No way is any mobile plan affordable for Netflix streams.
Unless some don't count Netflix data ( I don't know of any)

  • Vivid wireless is an option. It used to get a really bad rap but it's now been moved to the Optus 2300MHz network and from what I have heard it's much better. It's capped at 10Mbps but there is less congestion than there used to be on the old network.

    Ovo?

    • Yeah!!

Which device do you use with the ovo sim?

        • It's the same as any other sim

  • Maybe check out optus mobile plans? I'm too lazy to check myself unfortunately :p, but pretty sure they have free netflix streaming on some of the plans. Might be able to just stick a sim into a phone and tether it. I have a feeling vodaphone had something similar? Like free netflix streaming for 4 months or something?

edit: May not work if your streaming onto your computer? Not sure exactly how the free thing works but seems to be free for postpaid plans? http://www.optus.com.au/shop/support/answer/data-free-mobile…

Always wondered if you can setup a colander or saucepan to catch free WiFi signals.

You can but passwords unless you meant places like the library or McDonalds then in which case you need to find their router and direct it at you with some sort of parabolic dish like the one you suggested a colander

  • If a neighbour has Telstra Air, she can try piggy backing on that? I don't know how Telstra limits your downloads though.

  • Deff ovo! I had the same situation so I purchased one of their $60 for 50gb data plans and worked great. Best deal I could find.

    • What device do you use? Or just in a tablet?

      • I used it in an iPad mini 4, but you can use any tablet with 4g or one of those little pocket WiFi things. Service was great too, I could have netflix running whilst using the iPad and never lagged or had connection issues.

  • My mother in law was in the same situation. Some Optus post paid optus plans have unmetered Netflix, Stan and others. She ended up getting an ipad on the 10GB ($35) plan, paid $10 extra for unmetered netflix and $11 for the ipad (total $56 a month).
