    Cheers OP, great find

  • +1

Last round was delicious, still drinking them :)

  • +2

damn it, need to get a grinder ffs

    • Kmart

  • Great find.

  • Haven't even started on the first offer lol.
That plastic Hario V60 though, is anyone else a bit concerned about the boiling water and BPA leeching?
Wish it was the ceramic one :/

    • +1

      The v60s are BPA free.
Can't find the evidence for this on the official Hario websites, but this shop mentions it. Amazon also mentions the BPA free-ness)

      • +3

Thanks for that. Even so, I tend to err on the side of caution when it comes to heat and plastic.
If I get this, would probably gift away the v60 to someone a little less paranoid than myself.

        • +1

Go to a decent brew bar and they will be using this same V60. I have been using this same one for year with no issues.

    • Try Aliexpress.

      • +1

Thanks. Yeah some nice cheap ones there.

    • +4

You dont use boiling water on coffee.

Each brew method will be different but maximum temp you would want is between 93-96 celcius. Some even as low as 78 celcius.

  • +3

Would be nice if they could offer a premade kit ready to go (include grinder)

    • Ditto! I use a Nespresso machine. If someone wants to convert me I'd need a whole kit of everything I need.

  • Thanks Op. Just bought one. Didn't even know I needed one!

  • +1

I have yet to start on the coffee I bought last time. Looking forward to it though.

  • +1

Anyone used this for cold brew?

    • +1

Not a v60, but I've used a batch Brew machine, then chilled it down before serving over ice. The coffee doesn't end up quite as clear as with cold brew and has a distinctly different flavour profile but it's still delicious and only needs half an hour to prep, as opposed to a good few hours. Using a v60 wouldn't be too different.

    • Poor Mans cold brew

      coarsely grind beans

      get a glass jar

      add cold water + grinds

pour out into another container/jar with a gauze like towel (or buy some coffee filters)

Repeat a few times to get rid of excess grinds

Leave it in the fridge so that the sediment of excess grinds falls to the bottom

use a ladle to gently scoop out cupfuls of cold brew.

      optionally add ice/milk/icecream and enjoy

  • What is the roast difference between espresso and filter?

    • espresso roasts are usually darker, depends on what you plan to use for.

  • still need to buy a grinder for the previous deal.

does anyone know where i can grab a well-priced hario skerton ceramic grinder?

    • it's $40 aud on amazon excl. shipping

      https://www.amazon.com/Hario-Skerton-Ceramic-Coffee-Mill/dp/…

just click on the price offer by amazon under 'other sellers'

    • I wouldnt be buying an espresso grinder for pour over, it will give you rocks.

You want an ek43 or similar. These are $2000+ though.

So buy a hand grinder, buy the C40 MKIII Nitro Blade Comandante Hand Grinder is an amazing grinder.

      • +2

        Haha… ek43!

If you want a good starter all around grinder that can do filter and espresso I'd recommend a Breville BCG820 smart grinder.

  • +6

A grinder is useful (obviously), but do you really need scales for a pour over? You're making coffee, not nitroglycerin…

    • +2

It isn't compulsory but it can really help with consistency. I just use a cheap one from ebay. While you're at it if get a thermometer too

    • Yes, you NEED scales for a pour over and a timer. Its all about in and out ratios.

    Use with C10YAY

For the Hario Skerton Grinder $35.96 delivered

EDIT: My bad $75 min spend for C10YAY

    • thought its minimum $75 spent for the 10%?

  • +2

Still drinking their coffee from the last offer. Very very tasty. Thumbs up!

    • +2

Thanks bro! Hit that upvote button :)

  • +1

great price even if it were just for beans alone. I've never used a V60 so good excuse to get into it! :)

  • Good deal. But the deal with the 3 x 250gm coffee delivered for $16 a fortnight ago was better imo.

  • How much cheaper does this work out to be per serve compared to your average instant coffee?

    • +1

No idea how much instant coffee costs you, but from the linked tutorial they suggest 26 g for a single serve, so a little over $1/serve (assuming no value for the V60). For refills you can buy cheaper beans from the supermarket for roughly half that, so maybe 60c/serve. But I think if you're comparing on just price to instant coffee you're kind of missing the point of real coffee.

  • Good coffee but please be aware some of their bags may arrive not fully sealed. This may affect the taste and shelf life of the beans. They were nice enough to send another bag.

  • How often do new paper filters need to be purchased?

    • After you've used them. 1 paper filter does 1 cup of coffee. You'll also need a gooseneck kettle, the water from any other pouring vessle will cause dents in the coffee.

  • Can you get enough coffee for 2 people through one pour over?

    • +1

There are 2 cup versions but im sure these kits are the $10 hairo starter kits.

      The $10 kits include
      Paper filters
      Clear v60
      Jug
      Manual

      So its 1 cup only.

      • Thanks

  • These guys make great coffee!

  • Cheers guys.
    Perfect Christmas present.
Now for a half decent grinder without breaking the bank.
Does the above Hario skerton suit this or is there something better suited for the price ?

  • +1

is this ok for this type of coffee making

    http://www.optimoz.com.au/products/porlex-mini-stainless-ste…

    • +1

I own one of these and I'm happy with it :) great tutorials/guides on how to use them too

      • what setting do you have it on when making long blacks with aero press/french press

        • +1

With an aeropress/any paper filter I use 5-clicks from closed. Mesh filters (like French press) I use 9-click.

  • Roast date on the beans please??

  • I've processed payment / order through PayPal and it goes back to the complete order page.. I'm hoping it went through as the page isn't doing anything or updating..
NVM… Went to my order page and it's pending so all looks ok. Cheers OP.

    • +1

You should receive a PayPal invoice and Tax invoice (2x emails) if successful as confirmation

  • FYI, you can get compatible filters for this at Daiso for $2.80 for a 100 pack.

    • +1

Haha till you taste them… Lol. Its bad enough you already need to wash the hairo ones with boiling water

  • Great deal, thanks. Does anyone know where I could get a cheap gooseneck kettle that also doesn't suck?

    • Let me know when you find out. Keen to get one for myself too!

      • Message kbean on ebay. He will help you out. Should get a hairo pourover kettle for around $60ish.

Mr dolo will help out too!

    • I have a gooseneck for sale in the classifieds section. Hario 1.0L BNIB.

  • Does anyone know if Sensory labs themselves have hario grinders? They accept David Jones gift cards (The CBD Cafe that's behind David Jones) and I have one that I need to use. :P

    • +1

They don't stock unfortunately. I picked up the last of the Hario Buono gooseneck kettles from them yesterday. Wifey's staff discount was helpful!

May I suggest Plantation in Melbourne Central. They have the grinder and they're part of the Amex shop small deal. If you're quick, you can get $10 off today!

  • Any links for scales or a gooseneck kettle?

    • I have a gooseneck for sale in the classifieds section. Hario 1.0L BNIB.

  • Plastic, no thanks! Don't think it is a harmless idea for something you would incorporate into your daily routine. If only using a few times then I wouldn't worry.

    • It's bpa free. I don't the logic?

      • BPA is just one of the ones we have shown to be bad. BPA for many years was considered food safe, go figure! Leaching will always occur - Some materials to a lesser extent (glass etc).

  • No tracking information yet.

    Is this normal ?

    • Mine just shipped. ETA tomorrow!

    • No way near as fast as the weekend deal two weeks ago, but I too have received my confirmation/tracking on Wednesday. Surprisingly, the tracking number/link doesnt spit out any information :(

      • +1

        I received my order today.

        Have you tried https://www.startrack.com.au/ ?

        • Yeah I tried copying the codes into StarTrack but wouldn't register :(

          Edit: It literally just arrived!
Bonus - getting a 2-cup V60 driper was very generous on their part!

        • @yojabbajabba:

          You received 2 cups ?

        • @yojabbajabba: Mine arrived today too. Says 1 - 4 cups on it.

        • @kulprit: Meant to say size two - there is a smaller version designed for only 2cups. I'm glad I got the larger one
