Counterfeit Watch on eBay. Best Course of Action

Hi all. I'll get right to it.

Last week I made a purchase of a watch on impulse.

In my searches over the weekend I have realised that the watch is not an authentic. I am 100% sure about this and so when the watch arrives, I will be returning it and getting my money back.

I have never had anything like this happen and never had to go through a return, so I was just looking for some guidance from the community.

Is it better to initiate the return/dispute through eBay or paypal?

Thanks in advance for your help

i have had received a fake second hand samsung galaxy s6 so yeah fake watch is more common for sure. the funny thing is seller (guy at bankstown) claimed he did NOT aware the phone is fake.

paypal will sort that out for you. they are siding with buyers nowadays..ALOT.

"have never had anything like this happen"

Well, normally I do my research before buying something like this, but it was an impulse buy as I really liked the look of it and thought it a reasonable price.

      (guy at bankstown)

surely that's a dead giveaway already ahaha

    • He had to say that he did not know it was fake. It's a criminal offence to sell fakes.

  • Thanks for the replies.

    Much appreciated

  • which ebay seller? might be helpful to others not to buy from them

    • It was a private seller, however, looking now at other listings for the same watch/brand, so many of the listings are not authentic watches, especially the auctions.

The listings are for Daniel Wellington watches (i know I may cop some flak for that, but I just like the style of them)

One simple giveaway for the fakes is that the crown is flat instead of rounded.

Are you able to share the link to the item? I'd like to see and it might be beneficial for everyone else so that we all know to avoid.

As in my reply to godofpizza, it was just a single listing from a random seller, but many of the Danny's on eBay being auctioned atm are not authentic

      • Thanks - just saw your reply.

I've always been a bit curious about how these people decide on what to make fakes of because unlike Rolex and Tag watchs, these watches are relatively cheap.

I think in the case with these ones, because they are relatively simple in terms of design, it makes them easier to copy and there is less that they can get wrong.

  • Apparently the dial is paper …

Interesting to know. Who would have thought

  • I bought a really good copy from Aliexpress, under $10 and looks the same - lots of actual photos in buyers comments, so I know what I was getting. fine for a fashion piece I guess but normal DW prices are too much I think.
Some copies are really poor , this one was fine. Betting your seller did the same and knew all along.

    • That's what I'm thinking and was contemplating sending a message through eBay once the watch arrives, but I think it's probably best to just go through paypal and leave it be

      • Yep, get your money back.

    • Got a link PVA - im intrigued :)

      • I will have to look it up as it was 6 months ago. Problem with that is the stores selling stuff like this close down quickly so it may not be around.

      • link to the watch says Page not found, now. Description was - Fashion Daniel Wellington DW Watches Men TOP Brand Luxury Stylish Nylon Strap 40 mm Silver Quartz Watches hombre relojes 8 Color . so maybe some combo of that may find one again.
        cost was Aud $4.38
Store was https://www.aliexpress.com/store/1760270 (dont seem to have it now but have much the same with different name in the photo - sometimes that still mean you get a brand name, check the buyer comments and photos.

was treat as a fashion watch and a throwaway really, but still looks fine.

https://en.itao.com/ sometimes gives you links to items.

Try to contact seller, if seller is not ready to fix the problem then Complain to Paypal, they will sort it out for you, don't forget to return the item with tracking number (even though seller asking you to send the item back keep the tracking details).
