eBay Purchase -Rejected Australia Post Delivery - Company Deducting $20 From Refund

First time poster - I can't seem to find the info online.

I purchased a small electrical product through eBay. I paid the extra postage for insurance/signature/express. I soon realised the same seller was offering a better product for a little bit more money and they have a change of mind policy.

When I processed a refund through eBay I advised I would reject the order as it would then go back to the seller without me needing to handle it. They contacted me to tell me not to do that, but it was already too late and now:

My Question:
1. The seller is now claiming that if I reject the order that there will be no insurance cover on the package
2. That they will be charged $20 from Aus Post for the failed delivery and will deduct this from my refund.

Is this correct?

You could probably try taking advantage of Paypal's refunded returns. Basically, just ship the item back to the seller, tell them to cancel transaction and Paypal will rebate you up to $45 dollars on the shipping.

Be sure to read the conditions carefully first

    Exactly what they told you.

If you accepted the package, you would have to pay $20 to post the item back to them (Of which you could have claimed back through Paypal as mentioned above.)

However, since you chose to reject the package, Auspost actually holds the package "hostage" until the seller pays them the $20 (which you avoided paying) for returning the package. Also, the seller is unable to claim the postage from Ebay, which is why they are claiming it from you.

  • change of mind policy.

It's common for a change of mind policy to include a restocking charge.

  • Auspost do generally charge businesses for the return of a package when it is RTS'd also. So that's probably it.

Also it disqualifies you from eBay Money Back Guarantee.
