  • Great headset (I have one - previous deal from Big W $69), amazing value at $59.95. It can take a little bit of getting used to, but you can't go wrong at this price.

    • May I ask what takes a little bit of getting used to?
I've heard reports from the XO Fours that they squish some people's heads, you haven't experienced with these have you?

      • OOps… sorry - I should have been more thorough.

I have big ears and the padding presses against the outer parts. It was uncomfortable because I wasn't use to the pressure. After a few days of gaming for a few hours I got used to the padding pressing on my ears - now I don't even notice it.

They have a firm hold when you wear them but not enough to make it feel like your head is being squished.

        • Ah OK, thanks for the feedback! Sounds like an overear cup thats slightly too small :p

I currently own a pair of HyperX Cloud's but they annoy me as they don't have mic monitoring.
I've heard the only way to get mic monitoring is with the Turtle Beach headset adapter.
Just to confirm, do they come with the TB adapter or the generic MS adapter?

        • @Verse:

It comes with the Turtle Beach adapter. Works a great. You can control chat volume and game volume independently.

Late night gaming with high volume is a thing of the past because all of the audio comes through the headphones (game and chat)!

OMG, just came here to say this. Turtle Beach are fine if your head is a giant pimple that needs popping. The grip on your head is astounding. These things would not come off in a car crash. They all feel like they are made out of recycled plastic coke bottles and old car bumpers. The ear pads are made from steel wool like material and filled with a virtually zero compression foam filling.

I have found that Turtle Beach are the Beats of gaming headsets. Well, not really on quality, but on performance promises and pricing, they just don't represent what the product is.

So, if you have that really nice new Starter cap with the gold sticker still on the peak, and it's just not stretching fast enough to be comfortable, buy a set of Turtle Beach headphones. These headphones will squash your head down to the correct size to fit that new hat faster than the hat will stretch to fit your head.

        Turtle Beach headphones:
        Pros:
Won't come off in a catagory 12 cyclone
Can double up as a handle for watermelons
Could be used in the Hadron Collider to smash atoms together
Keeps garbage plastic from ended up in dolphins stomachs
Ear pads double up as dish scouring pads
        Cons:
Unconfirmed reports of people having their heads popped
Leaves marks on your watermelons if using them as a grip handle
People will always ask you "dude, what headset are you using? It sounds like garbage."
You'll never be proud saying "yeah, these are great, they are Turtle Beach…"

        • ahahahaha! that was a good read.

Are they so uncomfortable that you don't use them anymore?

        • @Verse: I went back to the Polk 4 shots. They dont have mic monitoring, but they are comfortable and the sound quality is much better than TB.

  • Got mine for $35 from Microsoft Store in September

And that's about the right price bracket for Turtle Beach…

So what should I spend my $60 on instead? My 10yo son would love a headset for Xbox One for Christmas and I'm (the middle aged Dad) not sure which direction to head!

    • These are comfy as and have been very cheap before hopefully pops up again for you https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/258406

      • I also own these, however I stopped using them almost instantly due to their design.
They lack a boom mic, instead having an inbuilt microphone inside the left ear cup, making a headset that looks wearable in public.
However the problem is that this microphone is so far away from your mouth that it makes you incredibly quiet.
I had lots of people complaining they could hardly hear me and I would end up talking quite loudly to combat that.

Hmmm that's weird I get compliments from how clear my voice is

        • Ignore this comment… don't know how to delete it!

    • I have had lots of head sets for gaming over the years. Everything from top of the range Astro bullshit overpriced, make me sound like a pilot and buzz every time I charge them head sets down to, what's that, I can't hear you, why is your mic so crackly Chinese markets specials. (For what it's worth, Turtle Beach come in under the Chinese market specials.)

The ones I have always come back to are the Polk 4 Shots. They are really comfortable, sound quality is as you would expect from Polk audio products. Everyone I game with always says that they are nice and clear.

Upside is that they are pretty well made and comfortable and have now come well down in price. I have a large head, and these are a very comfortable fit. They come with a built in mic cough GARBAGE cough and a really nice boom mic and flat braided cable. It comes with the Xbox headphones adaptor in the box as well. They handle some rough treatment (read: rage quit) and still just keep going. When ever my new head phones break, I always go back to my 4 Shots as a backup.

Downside is no mic monitoring for one. They really seal out external noise. So if you are the type that can't control your inside voice without some type of external feedback, then maybe not for you. Only other issue I had was the paint on the top head strap got a bit flakey after 3 years of sweat and grime eating away at it. I just took to it with a Turtle Beach ear cup or Brillo pad, same thing really, and scuffed off any loose paint.

Enough tripe though. I recently got a second pair so I can main use them again. The original pair are on the shelf as backup and still going. I won't be buying anything else for a while. Not while this quality is available in this price bracket…

They were on special a week or 2 ago for about $55 posted.

      • Sound a lot like my HyperX Cloud's, granted I haven't had them for as long but theyre so incredibly comfy and are built really well.
I just can't stand the no mic monitoring so It's got me shopping around again :'( The only ways I could find were through a Turtle Beach adapter (this deal) and through the new XB1-S Controller that supports the 3.5mm into the controller. But without the adapter I can't control volume or mute my mic with ease!

  • Lots of people saying turtle beach are really firm on your head, how do they go if you're gaming whilst wearing glasses? I currently have cheapies which are fine when wearing contacts but are very uncomfortable with glasses on.

    • +1

They are firm too. I found it much better if you don't stretch the band all the way (which I liked to do). Obviously won't work if you have large head. The earcups are small too so you need to adjust it to find the sweet spot. Once you do it's fine, I'm wearing glasses too and I don't have any issue with it.
