Cheap Car Rental Excess Reduction Insurance?

Hi Guys,

I'm planning to rent a car in east coast for a few days, any cheap and reliable car rental policy? The insurance from rental company is ridiculously expensive, more than the car itself!

I could find some very cheap deals, but they mainly based in Europe providing rental car insurance worldwide, no idea if it's trustworthy or not.

Thanks!

  • last time I rented RACQ gave a discount with Hertz plus had insurance built in. That was about a year ago.

  • Hi alohame, I've used tripcover a few times and can't fault them so I'll post a link to a few reviews http://www.productreview.com.au/p/tripcover.html

    They are far cheaper than getting it from the car rental but be aware in an accident you would pay the car hire company the full excess and then you claim it back off tripcover, so make sure you can cover it.

  • +1

    Just take out travel insurance before rent a car :}

  • I use Australia Post travel insurance, includes car rental excess coverage.

  • I suppose you can only really judge after you've made a claim. I use 1Cover travel insurance: claimed once, with a busted windscreen: no worries.

  • Thanks Guys, I'll try thipcover this time, hope I don't need to claim anything.

    Only problem is I'm not going to hire a car consecutively, which might bring more trouble having to check vehicle more often.

  • Just realized that for many rental companies, you have to be careful as they would charge an extra $2,200 for single vehicle acci on top of the normal excess. That will make the total effective excess to over $6,000.

    And the insurance of tripcover more than doubled for a $6000 excess compare to $4000, makes it only a little bit better than the rental companies'.
