    these require a 40A ESC? i read online somewhere. Would love to build a quad from scratch. currently running a cheap drone to learn off ER250

      40A is overkill, anything from 24A - 30 A will be enough unless you are running 5s / 6s lipo. These motors are supersmooth.
      
      The 40A draw is only from a bench test situation where the Lipo supplying power direct to the ESC and motor.
