Anyone Recommend a Drone under $400?

Friend has asked me about a drone. I know nothing about them, but figure this is the place to ask. Any suggestions for $300-$400? Thanks

  • what's the use of the drone?

    • You don't have to try and find a park at Bunnings.

  • I haven't used any drones before, but you might want to look at Aldi for $149 if you want to try one before you go for the better ones.

  • Hmm, at a guess a general fly above and film. Pretty sure they already have a gopro if it's cheaper to get a drone with a gimble only. From my 20mins of research the XIAOMI UAV 1080 looked good, but just outside budget.

    • Xiaomi is still new to the game, if your friend is just starting out, I recommend a Phantom, they are pretty much idiot proof. A P3 Standard should do the job and I think those were listed around $500 recently.

  • Whirlpool or a more drone centred forum would be better than ozb. Spending $400 seems unwise to me unless the person has money to burn. I'd recommend getting a smaller unit to practice with and then upgrading to a bigger unit. That's the route I was going down. I bought a hubsan x4 and haven't really bothered with it since I got the hang of flying it around.

  • What's the "poor mans" Lily Drone these days?

    • I think something on those lines were posted recently, it should be alright for images but expect the videos to be pretty shitty!

PS: Here's the recent post I was referring to

  • It all depends on what you intend to use it for - camera drones are great but compared to an FPV / racing drone you don't really have a lot of control as the pilot, that's why I went for one of these: http://www.banggood.com/Eachine-Racer-250-FPV-Drone-w-Eachin…

Whatever you spend on the drone itself, you'll spend again on spares and accessories such as extra battery packs, FPV headsets and so on.

    • yeah that's a good fpv racing quad.
