Warning about Tiger Airways new checkin proceedure

Just checked two people (on the same reservation) in using Tigers new web-checkin, and the seat allocation system has sat them apart from each other. The flight is not till Monday so there are obviously free seats together, but their computer system isn't that smart! After checking in, you cannot make any further changes so you are stuck with these seats.

So in conclusion:
If you want to sit next to your partner on a flight you will now need to pay! Either $8 per person to allocate seats next to each other when booking, or $10 per person to ignore web checkin and check in at the counter, or $20 per person to include luggage and check in at the counter.

I still love Tiger though. Couldn't afford to fly at all if it wasn't for them!

wow, thats messed up if your on a budget, but domestic wise, I only fly with qantas, so i'll leave you with a 'sucks to be you'

So now it costs $10 each to check in at the airport to get your boarding pass? when did this come about???

All flights booked after 1st July

    Good thing I used Jetstar's price-beat guarantee.

  • I think from Tiger's perspective they'd probably think their new computer system is smart… a lot of the budget airways in Europe do this purposely so that you have to pay to have seats together so maybe Tiger is now doing the same!

I'm all for economies of scale, and not paying for things if you don't need them (eg a meal on a MEL-SYD flight).

      BUT

If the airways deliberately put in an inconvenience, then for a "small convenience fee" allow you to sit next to each other (for example), I think that's just plain rude.

    not a problem for me.
just did web checkin for 2 pax on same flight, same booking number, and got seats next to each other on both outbound and return flights.

    • to be honest - I'd REALLY expect this to be the norm.

I think it's more likely (and I apologise to the original poster benjamin if this is not the case) that the original poster made a small error and didn't check in or seat the people together.

But I really hope this is not the sign of things to come.

No thats not the case, I rang them to complain and they said its a 40% chance you will not sit together

        • Benjamin - thanks for your reply. I'm sorry to hear that!

OMG - that really sucks on Tigers part - that just seems like a revenue raiser for them.

Another reason to avoid them in my opinion.

  • som europe budget ones like easyjet have first in best dressed policy
    (besides those who paid extra)

  • Any idea on how the seat allocation works? So far I have gotten the worst seats when booking early, ie in the middle seat or in the middle of the plane (last off).

  • I have tried for 4 days to get Tiger's web login to print my boarding pass (depart Friday 6 August)but keep on getting an error message. Anybody had any success getting theirs.

    • I flew on the weekend, for my first flight I was able to print my boarding pass almost a week before. For my return flight I was only able to do it 24 hours before. I get to the airport early anyway and get them to change my seat to an emergency exit row seat.

The up side is that if you have carry on only & do web checkin, you don't need to be @ the airport 45min before <i>scheduled</i> departure. it's a bit annoying have to turn up early when you know you're flight is 2hrs late. Although that's ok as you can sit in the Tiger Club Lounge (i.e. bring some beers & sit on the milk crates outside).

I'm wondering why anyone who only flies Qantas on domestic even visits this site?

    • If I was flying MEL to SYD I would do the online check in and arrive 45mins before. But flying MEL to PER I would rather show up early and get the emergency row seat, 4 hours in a tiger seat when you are over 6 feet tall is not much fun. I was able to stretch out in the emergency seat and sleep the whole way. It was $560 cheaper than flying Qantas and my flights all left on time.

Tiger Club Lounge - Full of bogans wearing $10 sunglasses, waving around bags of Krispy Cremes & carrying fake Gucci bags.

  • I've tried Tiger once. Never again will I do that to myself. Pay the extra, it's worth it to fly another airline.
They don't accept cash for food or drink on the flights so I had to pay by Visa for an overpriced $4.00 can of Coke.
