USA SIM: SIMPLE Mobile Unl'td LTE Data/Calls/Txt/Int'l Calls to Australia (Landline): $23 USD (~$31 AU) @ simple_cella on eBay

150

Found out about this on HowardForums (but I lost the link). Apparently one user just buys these SIMs and has a Google Voice number to achieve what we do with $30 starter packs. Anyhow, these SIMs should be good for any OzBargainers wanting to travel to the USA.

You can have these shipped to your hotel or AirBnB address. Just follow whatever bizarre instructions the eBay seller has for you and their eBay seller magicks will activate the SIM for you. You can also pray to the SIM starter kit gods for free!! I have not personally tried this, but it seems like this is a fairly popular trick on eBay. The prices are pretty stable here, haven't seen them move much really.

If you think this is a bit risky try: TPO or my favourite SE Asia + US/UK roaming SIM StarHub

"calls to specific countries, Australian landmines".
That'd be one bang of a call!

    • Unfortunately no one I know still has their Note 7 :(

  • Unlimited LTE data? Hell, out big three can certainly learn something from them

    • Yeah, that's what it says.

I tried to find out if SIMPLE Mobile stops being full speed at some point. I haven't found out in their T&Cs but most "unlimited" plans in the USA shape you to ~256KB/s or less after you download 25-50GB of data. I know Boost is 26GB, TPO is 55GB. T-Mobile is 23GB and you hit potential "de-prioirisation" so you risk being throttled if the tower is being hammered.

It's likely tethering isn't supported, but it might work anyway. Vague T&Cs are vague.

    • even though other countries have had it for ages I don't think we'll be seeing it any time soon. our home internet is so slow having unlimited 4g would replace it easily.
