Various Single Malt Whisky Deals on eBay E.g. Jura Superstition for $69

1480
CORK20

You're probably here looking for xmas gift ideas which is exactly why I made this deal. All "usual" prices below are pulled from boozle.com.au as the cheapest alternative to this eBay sale.

Light/sweet
Most of the whiskies here are from the Lowlands and are the most approachable whiskies due to their sweeter notes.
Glenkinchie 12yo for $67 is an ideal gift for a lady who likes whisky but doesn't want to get hit in the face, figuratively, when taking a sip, very approachable; usually $85.
Glenmorangie 12yo for $76 is one of my personal favourites; usually $85.
Royal Lochnager 12yo for $70 is a guess from me as I have never had it but it comes well reviewed; usually $88.

Peaty/smokey
This whisky drinker is a bit rough around the edges and has been drinking whisky for a while now.
Jura Superstition for $69 is a great whisky and only has mild smokiness; usually $85. Tip: if you don't really like the person, spend a few less dollars and get them the Jura 10yo.
Laphroaig 10yo for $68 is a classic smokey whisky; usually $80
Caol Ila 12yo for $76 is a cool gift for the guy that usually hits up Johnnie Walker. When he scoffs at your fancy scotch you can say that Caol Ila makes up the majority of the whiskies blended to make the typical JW.

Classic
These are the most commonly owned whiskies I have seen around the traps. They are always appreciated and can be drank after a day in the office without being concerned you are wasting a bottle on a non-occasion.
Cragganmore 12yo for $69 is a can't go wrong gift. Personally my favourite daily drinker and always gets a nod at parties; usually $83.
Bowmore Small Batch for $68 is another staple in most drinker's cabinets; usually $85.
Glenfiddich 15yo for $80 is great value for a well respected whisky; usually $100.
Glenfiddich 18yo for $108 is an absolute legend in the whisky world. Personally I don't love it but do respect the experience when someone offers it to me. Dan has it for $150 so at least the recipient will think you spent a bit on him!

That's all I can be bothered writing about. If you have a bit more to spend and want to impress your recipient, grab an Amrut, Nikka or Suntory as the Indian and Japanese whiskies are still 'cool'. Macallan is what Harvey Specter drinks in Suits. Dalmore is another good one for the ladies.

Came here to post this. Well done OP!

    • I agree, very good and accurate review! Please post more, OP! Doesn't have to be a bargain, just loving your explanation!

  • +1

I'm a big fan of Glenmorangie, I usually buy it duty free when I can..
Thank OP for the detailed description.

+1 for the Glenkinchie - very, very good whisky - particularly if you're just starting out and don't want anything too intense.

    • That is a cracker of a price on the Glenkinchie 12yo.

I do miss the Glenkinchie 10yo though, such a nice drop.

      • just grabbed the last bottle. thanks for the reviews

        • +1

Arghh, was going to buy two of these when back online later tonight. Dammit, should have bought then posted ;-)

  • Price match Dans?

  • Thanks OP. I needed something like this. Time to stock up for the year

  • and irish wiskey ?

btw Cragganmore seems to be $69 at Vintage Cellears at the moment if you were looking to only grab that and don't care about the 1.25% cashrewards

  • Laphroaig 10yo is a great deal

  • thanks OP, grabbed the Laphroaig 10yo

  • Cheers! Picked up a Springbank 15

  • Glenkinchie 12yo and Glenmorangie 12yo seem to be out of stock already.

Thanks, grabbed 2 Glenfiddich 15 earlier. More than 10 available at the time now all gone.

    • +1

Got one myself. Nice dram for the price.

I had to refrain from dropping $500 on the cc for a couple of the pricier selections.

Some good pricing at 20% off on some of the single malts

Is it just me or is there something slightly odd and unsettling about buying alcohol off eBay?

Maybe it's because I associate eBay the purchase of cheap computer parts from China.

Well it could be worse, tomorrow's deal: Moonshine from Gumtree!

  • Thank u OP, great post !

    These descriptions made me moist.

  • The Laphroaig went out of stock as I was paying for it last night. :(

  • Has anyone found any other good deals for spirits generally? I don't usually buy so I wouldn't know. my young adult son has decided to build a spirits collection, he's no connoisseur ;)

    • +1

The most consistent way to find good deals is track price drops on Dan's or 1st. They will occasionally battle each other on a particular spirit.
There is a way to set up a filter on boozle to track price drops but it's unreliable. I'm out but will try and remember to post it when I'm home.

      • thanks!

        • Basically I go to boozle and chuck in single, t:Spirits, c:Scotch Whisky to the search box and sydney for the location. Then set the sort to Price ascending and distance to 20km, update.

You then compare the current price to the historical price range and if the current price is the same as the lowest, you might have a deal. Then it just comes down to doing this once a week for a couple of years and you learn the prices of what you like and when to jump on it.

If you don't know whisky very well, just leave the sort to Popularity and grab one of the top 20 when you see a price anomaly.

Consider signing up to boozle as you get more options then. Note, not associated, it's a good site but could be much better if they tried.

    • Four Roses Small Batch bourbon is one of the best deals going during the special.

    • Follow this OP gentleman

  • Anyone buy from nicks?

    https://www.nicks.com.au/glenfiddich-18-year-old-single-malt…

    This comes in cheaper….

    • Yeah no problems with Nicks at all. Use Fastways for delivery I think.

      • Fastway, what a misnamed company. Disappointed they have not yet gone out of business so I don't have to deal with them - even more disappointed that companies still use them for deliveries.

  • Thanks! Got the last caol ila https://youtu.be/7-Z9Ve-jQvw

  • Got the last 18 year. Price is deeeeccccc

  • Did anyone else have issues getting stuff delivered by fastways couriers? It's been a nightmare dealing with them!

    • +1

      lol fastway are terrible.

      • Tell me about it! My Springbank got sent on 7 December.. i am yet to receive it! They broke the first bottle and didn't tell me or the sender about it. Now gooddrop has sent a replacement and it still hasn't arrived. Gooddrop have been on to them about it the delivery driver called me and said his van broke down and he'll deliver it today.. frankly I'm not holding my breath.

For most of the 5 weeks that I've been waiting for this interstate package to arrive it has been sitting in a depot about 15 minutes from my office (the delivery address). I have no idea how these guys keep any customers!
